Steve C left this review about The Swan Inn

The Swan Inn has a central bar counter that supports premium and craft keg alongside Carling and nine hand pumps that were drawing Acorn Brewery’s Yorkshire Pride, Coach House Brewing’s Old Priory, Wily Fox Brewery’s Dark Flagon Rum Porter, Vocation’s Heart & Soul, Beartown Brewery’s Affinity, Derby Brewing’s Dashingly Dark and Tropical, Oakham’s Citra and Lymestone Brewery’s Pounamu. I opted for a pint of Tropical and found a free table in the square seating area to the left. The pub was busy so I ended up sat at a small table in the corner where I noted that the entire old beamed ceiling is covered with old pump clips. There was also a real log fire in the exposed brick fireplace which added to the atmosphere. Unfortunately my pint had turned, so I took it back to the bar and it was swapped for a Vocation, no questions asked. Now being mobile I took this opportunity to sit in the right-hand side of the pub where there’s more seating, including a long table that sits along the rear wall behind the U-shaped right-hand side of the bar counter. There was some background music playing, the likes of Mumford & Sons, which I don’t mind. Out the back is a decent beer garden, hopefully it will stop raining at some point this year so that it can be enjoyed. I liked this pub and will certainly return if ever in Stone again.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Swan Inn

Multiple local Camra branch pub of the year, and you can quite see why - a traditional alehouse with a real focus on decent beer so it doesn't matter one bit that the furniture is mostly plain and decor limited in much of the four-part opened-out 'J'-shaped layout (along the lounge part is more comfortable). Excellent choice from a total of nine handpumps, including two from Acorn - Barnsley and Gorlovka - plus Holden's Golden Glow and six less usual beers such as my Bradfield Farmers Brown Cow (£2.79, with 10% Camra discount). NB - Also has welcome real fires at each end, so an ideal spot for a winter evening.

This is an excellent free house with nine hand pumps. There was a friendly atmosphere and welcome, with a real fire at either end of the building. The range of beers on the bar was astonishing (see photos), with several beers and a couple of breweries I had not come across before. I only had a half, as I was trying to catch up with some people I'd arranged to meet, but the beer I had was in very good condition and I'd be more than happy to return here another time.

Just a short distance from the Southern end of the High Street, the Swan is a traditional ale house in an interesting Grade II listed building. You enter through a smart porch with stained glass panes bearing a rose motif, emerging into the bar area with a tongue and groove counter and canopy on the opposite wall, slightly to the right. Opposite the bar, under the front windows, there is a bare boarded space with curved button backed banquettes serving ellipse shaped tables. Nice old wooden beams cross the ceiling and the gaps between have been filled with pump clips to good effect. To the left of the entrance there is a sizeable carpeted seating area with more banquettes and plenty of regular tables and chairs. A few paintings liven up the walls and there were a few lit candles in a corner shelving unit, which added to the cosy feel of this part of the pub. Meanwhile, to the right there is an extension of the main bar area with a nice brick fireplace on the far wall and a mix of banquette and low stool seating. The room runs a little way back here where a short section of the bar serves a rather spartan space with limited high table and stool seating options. The radio played throughout my visit at a fairly sensible level but conversation was still able to dominate.
A few bar blockers made it a little tricky to see exactly what was on the hand pumps, but I was eventually able to spot Leatherbritches Hairy Helmet, Dark Star APA, Blue Monkey Funky Gibbon, Three Tuns Stirling, Ossett Silver King, Abbeydale Moonshine, Blythe Bagots Bitter, Coach House Old Priory and something from the Shiny Brewery. A well drilled team of bar staff efficiently dealt with orders at the crowded bar and I enjoyed a very good pint of the Funky Gibbon whilst watching people come and go from my bench near the entrance.
This is a fine free house which seems to source its beer from good local suppliers and some top quality brewers from further afield. It’s an interesting building with a good variety of seating areas to relax in and is worth spending a bit of time looking around. I really enjoyed my stay here and curtailed the remainder of my crawl to soak up the atmosphere here a little longer.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Swan Inn

A good sized pub with an equally sized rear patio garden. The interior of the pub is traditional, with original oak timber beams and floor boarded throughout, apart from the left hand side lounge which is carpeted.
The bar area is situated in the centre of the pub and consists of a mahogany bar top with a light green painted timber front. At the end of the bar, a small open hatch serves the patio area.
An exposed brick chimney breast, and a collection of cut logs can be found in the far lounge, maybe it used in the winter months. There was also a large collection of used pumpclips making its way across the ceilings.
Alewise, there were 9 handpumps along the bar and all were in use. We went for the Abbeydale Moonshine, Oakham JHB and Rudgate Valkyrie APA. All were in good condition and prices reasonable. This pub is also a winner of the heart of Staffordshire Camra Urban Pub of the Year 2016.

This is rather an unpromising looking place externally being part of a red brick terrace. Inside it's a rectangular single room where the floor area wraps around the central bar. There are some old looking beams on the ceiling and the floor area is a mix of carpeted and wooden floors.
The bar has ten hand pumps but I didn't get to note all the beers as it was a bit busy on my Saturday afternoon visit. I did spot Lymestone Stone Faced, Nethergate IPA, a Blythe beer, Acorn Archer IPA and Old Moor Porter, St Austell Tribute, Naylor's Frosty and one that went off while I was being served. I went for the Acorn Archer IPA (£3.10) which was in great condition. If I had remembered the CAMRA discount it would have been very good value even compared to the town Spoons. This is another Stone pub well worth going to.

Alan Winfield left this review about The Swan Inn

The Swan Inn is a bare brick built pub that faces a very busy road junction.
Once inside there was an oblong shaped room which ran the width of the pub,the bar was slightly to the right, the left side was carpeted and looked more like a lounge area, there was bench seating facing the bar with small stools,a real fire was on the go at each end of the pub.
There was a very good choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Goffs Jouster which was a well kept beer, the other beers i noted were Goffs Camelot,Blyth Johnsons,Abbeydale Moonshine,Milestone Cupid,RCH East Street Cream and one from Buntingford.
This is a nice pub with some very nice beers on the bar,it was far to full on my Saturday dinner visit,so i had to prop the bar up.
