Another typical unaesthetic 60s estate pub, in undressed brick, with patio area and rear beer garden.

The interior has two rooms, but the lounge (straight ahead on entry) was not open at my early visit, so I didn’t see that. The bar room, to the right, is a tidy room in cream décor. There is a pool table, dart board, along with a TV, with Sky Sports News and there is a rack, with a choice of newspapers to read if desired. There are lots of old photos on the walls, as well as a trophy cabinet for the pub’s various teams. The back ground music was general and quiet, the service was fine and the clientele a couple of local chaps.

Beer; tap stuff, with Banks’s and Chestnut MILD, the latter being decent, as well as John Smith’s Cask Bitter, Pedigree and Spekky Hen on handpull.

I was surprised about how good this place was. A good all-round choice of beer, with a couple of MILDs and three real ales, despite them being more ‘national’ brews. The interior was a classic bar room and there is a beer garden. I felt comfortable here and could have stayed reading the paper for a few hours. I would definitely return.

A good estate pub. Well-kept real ale and good food. Friendly staff. Very good facilities.
