The central bar area of the Red Lion is bookended by seating areas to the left and right. There is an inglenook around an old gas fire on the right wall in the tile floored bar area. Low beamed doorways lead to the seating either side and a short bar counter runs along the rear wall. Standard keg was available alongside Madri and one of the three hand pumps was drawing a nice drop of Bank’s at £3.10 a pint. I found the governor to be friendly, although he was getting ready to shut up shop not long after 20:00 on my Sunday visit. I found this pub to be welcoming, and liked the quirkiness, so I would return if in the area.

If your business model is shutting before 9 pm on a Sunday then i think you need to rethink your approach to running a pub. Landlord was a complete xxxx I'd rather give q tramp my cash than this knob head owner. Pub down tbe road £1.99a point bet his wasn't Enjoy these lack out custom.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Red Lion

Venerable pub with a relatively unaltered multi-room interior meriting its place on Camra's national inventory of historic pubs. All parts pleasingly traditional, but especially the small side room. No frills at all, and only one of the three handpumps in use, but at least I got a decent pint of Banks's Amber (just £2.90).

The Red Lion is a nice looking proper pub.
Once inside the pub has three separate rooms, the main room in the middle has the bar facing, there was a real fire on the go to the right, this room was packed with drinkers, there is a small square shaped room to the left which has normal tables and chairs, this room was also full with younger drinkers,we had a drink in what is probably the bar room to the right, this is a decent sized room with bench seating and small stools, there is a darts board in this room.
The pub has a tiled floor throughout and low beams,i had to duck down while walking round.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Banks's Bitter which went down well and was quite cheap, the other beers were Banks's Mild and Hobgoblin.
This is a proper unaltered pub.

A detached brick, stone and white rendered pub, with dormer windows and clearly with old elements to the building

The interior had three rooms; a bar jam packed with pub gamers, a lounge where the football was on and a quiet room i wish i had gone in but didnt see! The decor was the white and beam look, with low ceilings so little people like me were ok, others had to watch their heads! Various ephemera covered the walls of this traditional place, and there were a couple of nice fireplaces, giving much needed warmth. Service was friendly and the clientele completely mixed - it was very busy, hence a miserable g*t like me wished i had gone in the quiet room, however, arsenal losing in the cup did make up for it.

Beer; tap stuff with Banks's Bitter and MILD on handpull. The MILD went a little flat, the only downside to the pub really

I think it was the best pub in Rugeley, though not an extensive beer choice and the MILD was a tad disappointing on my visit - one, if not the only pub i would seek out if returning to the town.

While I was shopping I popped into here. It has two hand-pumps on, both are Banks's (and I had both the bitter and the Original.) I was taken aback by how warm and friendly the punters and the lady behind the bar were, also the decor of the rooms, the low beamed ceilings as well as the tight, small rooms have an intimacy about it. And the beer?...£2 per pint at time of writing and was well kept, very good value indeed!

I recommend very strongly you don't park on this pub car park unless you are a paying pub customer otherwise you run a strong risk of being clamped or towed away.
