Well described below. This is a popular pub and was quite busy on our visit. 3 ales on - Pedigree, Oxford Gold and the house beer, Lillington Regimental Ale. We went for the latter and it was an excellent pint. Worth a visit.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Kings Head

Proclaims itself to be Lichfield's oldest pub (although I think the Duke of York would dispute that), the place certainly retains some character in the front and back bar areas. The former has been partially opened-out into a 'L'-shaped layout with corner section strangely located down a single step from each arm. The rear bar has a more regimented arrangement of tables and is perhaps more suited to dining. Additional seating is also provided in a former courtyard to the side which is now covered and enclosed. Traditional wooden furniture and mostly plain decor apart from military history displays. Four real ales from the Marston's stable available from a total of ten handpumps on the various counters: the 'house' Lillingstone's Regiment Ale (£3.35), Pedigree, Wainwright and Hobgoblin.

An interesting large traditional pub, which has a military history as this was the birthplace of the Staffordshire Regiment, various photos and memorabilia can be seen throughout the pub. You enter the pub via a covered passageway, from here you take the entrance door on the left. The pub consists of a large front room and main bar, which had exposed ceiling beams and a flagstone floor. There was also a fairly large rear ,which was wallpapered and had painted timber and glass partition walls, looked a bit like a private meeting or function room. There was also a large patio courtyard and conservatory out the back. Four ales on handpump from Marston's, Bank's Sunbeam, Pedigree, EPA and a house ale, so nothing over adventurous ale wise on this visit.

A nice enough pub with an older style front part and a modern conservatory type extension to the rear. The front bar has lots of armed services paraphernalia including 2 rifles over a disused fireplace. Real ale available.

Not a lot seems to have changed since the review by Soup Dragon below. The range of beers from the Marstons stable has been extended to include a couple of outsiders, so that as well as Pedigree and Hobgoblin, on our recent visit there were also Fullers Chiswick Bitter and Upham Punter from Hampshire - no local ales, then. The other two hand pumps were empty. We enjoyed our visit here, albeit a brief one as we had a few more pubs to do before catching our train to Tamworth to see the mighty Luton Town play. Would we have preferred to stay here for a few more beers? No, I think, has to be the honest answer, though I wouldn't mind calling again on a non-football day.

One of the better town centre pubs. Former coaching inn, with brick facade, allegedly where the first regiment of the Staffs Regiment was formed.

The interior has a couple of rooms, in white and wood beam, but the old courtyard is used for expansion, especially in the nice weather and they do have live music. There is plenty of ephemera and the place has a nice feel. Until recently,i often found the service just functional, as it is often busy, but my last visit was better. The clintele is mixed and at our last visit, we ate here, which considering it was just a fiver, was decent.

Beer; tap stuff, no MILD. On the real ale front, again, until recently, i was a little disappointed with the beer choice, Marstons Pedigree and some other basic bitters (Marstons Bitter and Ringwood) but there were four on the other night and a little more exciting, although all from the Marstons group - I had the Jennings 1828, which was fine.

Live music nights - always worth a visit, but i did whinge that this place should do a lot better, at least i feel it has improved some, but it still comes on the next tier below the top 5 in Lichfield (Queens Head, Dukes of York and Welly, Horse & Jockey and George n Dragon).

Dating back to 1408, the Kings Head is the oldest pub in Lichfield. Country style furnishings in the dining area and large conservatory (in the converted courtyard)with plenty of seating. Well kept beers and lagers including Marston Pedigree and a regularly changed guest real ale. Extensive menu of extremely reasonably priced food from sandwiches to home made steak pie and chips (£3.95), cod & chips (£3.65), steaks, lasagne, jacket potatoes and a daily roast of the day. Food is plentiful and piping hot.
Children welcome and seperate childrens menu.
Live music some evenings
