Update: The decor has changed but the pub is still as below - other than there are a couple of sport TVs. The garden is nice and it is a local's pub. There were three real ales in at my last visit - sadly, a little disappointing: Ubu Mad Goose, Sharp's Atlantic and Old Golden Hen. The Atlantic was fine. I usually visit a couple of times a year as i like the pub.

Sep 2009: A 19th century beige pained brick exterior, with a smoking tent that has a pool table and a separate childs play area. The inside is open plan, with a dartboard area, bar area with TV and dining area, which had a nice fireplace. Decor was wood panel (green) with a yellow wallpaper. There are old Norton Canes pictures on the walls. It was a bit cluttered in the dining area, but clean. A dog had run of the place. Service was very cheerful. The radio was on at a decent level. Clientele was mixed.

Beerwise; usual stuff with M&B MILD on keg. Handpulls included; Cumberland ale, which was ok, Banks's MILD and bitter - Broadside had either just gone, or was just being replaced.

i have been to this pub several times now, it is a decent enough place for the beer and am happy to stop off, its just that there is nothing else around, so i dont tend to come much

I use this pub quite regularly being the closest pub to me in walking distance and i am pleased it is... The pub is kept by a young lady manager 'Sophie' a nice friendly person who knows her stuff and keeps the pub very well and has recently won an award for Excellence in Pub retail and thoroughly well deserved, she has done a great job with The Tavern and I think she will continue to do so. They have also recently been checked by Casque Mark and gained a good review. Good sized car parking area at the side and welcoming facade to the premises. The Pub is as described by others. Really is set up for family to come and enjoy. There is always a couple of decent cask ales which seem to have a good turnover being changed very regularly so you always know your going to get a fresh pint of whatever ales are current... on my last visit the guests were Mad Goose and Hobgoblin and also Spitfire waiting to come on. these are alongside a good selection of other Beers and Ciders such as Guinness, Carling, Thatchers etc. They also have Westons Old Rosie on draught and all kept very well. There are a couple of TV's in the Bar area usually showing a selection of whatever sport is required and for some matches etc there is also a large screen towards the back of the pub with seating and tables close by to facilitate watching. The pub is rarely empty from mid afternoon onwards and theres always someone happy to pass the time with a chat or smalltalk. I find it a nice relaxing place to visit and pass time if they did food I'd probably have no good reason to leave...

A fine example of a local, which is comfortable and traditional. Its also friendly and seems popular. The bar follows the room in a dogs leg and the clientelle was indeed mixed as Soup Dragon's review below.

Beer quality is ok, includes Banks' and Breaksprear Bitter.

This delightful pub has been in the top 3 of the camra pub of the year competition for the south staffs area for the last 5 years winning it twice 2003 and 2004 runner up since. It also holds the Gold Award for Beautiul Beer and Cask Marque, the Licensee prides himself on a consistent quality of his beer there are 5 cask conditioned ales two of which change constantly, a full range of Lagers,Ciders,Wines,Spirits and Soft drinks are always available.
