Will Larter left this review about The Old Royal Oak

Now the brewery tap for Fownes Brewery, with as many as eight real ales and a similar number of craft keg offerings. Closed Mon/Tue, opening at 4pm Wed/Thu, midday at weekends. (Lettering on the pub front still says "Olde" Royal Oak, but the pub's own website has a more up-to-date version.)

Open & closed about 5 times since last review. A bit of a dive now as the Pubco is just finding temps to keep a bit of money coming from it.

After a term of bad news and closure, it has finally reopened, but at £2.80 a pint of pedigree, its gonna need a lot of luck! This should be a typical market square town pub, but it is far from it.

John Doe left this review about The Royal Oak

This pub has gone downhill. It used to be a bikers/rock pub, which was great. Since it changed hands, firstly to Duffys, then back to the Royal Oak it has lost it's way, and atmosphere. They are trying to get the clientel back. I feel it is too much too little too late.
Boring, boring, boring. That is all i can say about this pub. Shame really as it used to be a good pub. As far as i'm aware there isn't any trouble, probably because hardly anybody goes there anymore. If you want a nice quiet drink, then this is the place for you. If you want to catch up on that crucial beauty sleep after a hard days graft, then this is also the place.
