I'd walked from the station into town past this pub when I first arrived. Whilst it is the first pub along the road to open each day, I was still slightly too early for 2pm opening initially. Returning later in the afternoon, I found a fairly traditional single room pub with bare floorboards and quite a few customers (all male).

For a 2024 Good Beer Guide pub, I was slightly disappointed with the beer range. Bass, Theakston Old Peculier & Marston's Pedigree are the regular ales. Guests were Timothy Taylor Landlord & Brain's The Rev James. However, the boxed cider range made up for it, with a choice of Weston's Old Rosie & Lilley's Mango Cider, Rhubarb Cider, Strawberry Cider & Cherries & Berries.

A decent, traditional pub. But there are better further along the road.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Roebuck Inn

The first pub you see as you walk into the town centre from the station, and quite distinctive due to its unusual, curved frontage and the old Ind Coope pub sign. Opened out at some stage to leave a single room with various seating areas around the bar and at each end, all parts with semi-traditional furniture. Decent selection of real ales from seven of the eight handpumps, including a fine Gates Burton Ale (£1.80, half).

One of, if not the closest pub to Burton train station, this is a solid pub to start an ale crawl, or perhaps have a last one before jumping on the train. And fitting in a way as mentioned below, back in the day of Burton brewing history, this used to be the tap pub for the Ind Coope brewery, and the pub sign is still topped by the ‘Hand’ logo used by Allied for their Ind Coope pubs.
Nowadays it’s one internal long wooden floored room with some nice original green tiling throughout with more of a lounge feel at the front section and more public with a dart board at the far end.
The bar supports eight ale pumps, seven of which were in operation for our visit with six ales and a cider. Bit of a mainstream selection but alongside GK Abbot, Theakston Old Peculiar, Marston’s Pedigree, and Draught Bass there was Brains Reverend James and in homage to the past, Burton Ale which is now brewed by Gates.
Very friendly service levels from the barmaid and I went for the Burton Ale as it would have been rude not to.

Julie, the landlady, recently won the title for "The Best Bass in Burton" competition out of six Burton pubs. This is now an annual event around town, unfortunately I didn't try their Bass and opted for the Theakston Old Peculiar, which was in good shape. Prices in here were reasonable, along with a well kept interior and spotlessly clean glasses.

Handily placed for the station, the pub sign is topped by the ‘Hand’ logo used by Allied for their Ind Coope pubs, the symbol originally coming from the now revived Allsopp’s.
As described, the interior exhibits some interesting green carved or moulded friezes around the interior perimeter.
I didn’t imbibe here as it was a bit early, but all seemed tickety-boo and in all it would appear that it would make a great start to a crawl.

A good traditional pub with one long room featuring some nice ceramic work. Beers as BF describes below. Well worth a visit, especially being next to the station and opening at sensible times.

A very traditional ale house with an attractive curved frontage. It's very close to the station ,and has a single room open plan interior but with seperate sections, wooden furniture and a friendly welcome from behind the bar.A series of handpumps was offereing on my trip Theakstons Old Peculier,Marston's Pedigree,Rev. James,GK Abbot,Gates Burton Ale and a decent Bass (NBSS 3.5) .There was also Olde Rosie handpumped cider with another pull unclipped.
This was a brief crawl visit ,enjoyable none the less.An old school ale line up,more reminiscent of the 80's but nothing wrong with that given the conditioning.Worthy of any crawl intinerary.

Next to the station and pretty much as Quinno describes, I counted eight handpumps on the bar offering up five beers on my visit, Abbot Ale Pedigree, Burton Ale, Bass and Oakham Bishops Farewell, I played safe with the Oakham beer and it was fine.
Not by any means a classic pub but worth the look.

A timewarp locals pub that looks 1976 both outside and in. Connoisseurs will find much to admire in the mostly untouched 70s refit, replete with velveteen banquette seating with inbuilt heaters, varnished tongue and groove ceiling, striped curtains and old skool ales from Theakston, Greene King, Bass, Marston and what I assumed to be a recreation of Ind Coop Burton ale which whilst in good nick (NBSS 3.5) was a ghastly buttery thing not fit to lick the originals boots. Friendly landlady. Plenty of good pubs in Burton, this one doesn’t demand top billing but it's good crawl fodder. 6.5

Another classic looking pub - nothing remarkable but friendly welcome and typical pub interior.

Bass in fine condition.
