The Lord Burton is the town's branch of Wetherspoon's and is named after Mr Bass himself.
It's quite a large establishment that stretches right back to a beer garden at the rear. The usual daytime characters were in making it one of the busier pubs I visited during my afternoon in Burton, but there was still plenty of spare seating.
The usual 'spoon's ales were on - Sharp's Doom Bar, Greene King Abbot & Ruddles Best. Marston's Pedigree is also a regular beer here. Of the 3 guest ales, 2 were from Derby - Mercia & Dashingly Dark. The third was Adnams Broadside. Ciders were Weston's Old Rosie & Rosie's Pig, Snail's Bank Raspberry Ripple & Rhubarb Cider, Broadoak Moonshine & Cock Eyed Pear Mania.
Despite being surprised by the decent cider range, I opted for the Dashingly Dark, which didn't disappoint. An above average Wetherspoon's in my opinion.

This is a surprisingly small and simple Wetherspoons pub that was oddly quiet when I visited on a Friday evening. The interior is fairly narrow, but runs a long way back, with the usual unique carpeting throughout. The servery is midway along the right-hand wall and has a simple counter and smart, mirrored bar back, all of the sort that you’ve no doubt seen countless times before in ‘Spoons up and down the country. The front part of the pub is marginally wider than the rest, and has been well stocked with tables and chairs, including a few in a rather bland, bare boarded raised space to the left of the entrance. Further back, high tables and stools fill the space opposite the bar, whilst to the rear, tables and chairs become the norm again, alongside a row of comfy looking banquette booths down the right-hand wall. Low tongue and groove panelling makes it’s way around most of the walls, with plain uppers that have been decorated with old black and white photos showing scenes from around the town.
There were three ‘Spoons regular ales on the handpulls, plus four guest beers, none of which were that exciting, leaving me to try the Adnams Ghost Ship, which was thankfully in decent nick. The barman here seemed very chipper, but the place had no atmosphere thanks to a dearth of customers, in stark contrast to just about every other pub I visited that evening.
I thought this was a pleasant enough place, looking quite well kept and churning out some well-kept, if uninspiring, beer. However, the lack of punters tells its own story, and I came away wondering whether the place was quiet because the surrounding pubs are so much better or because the locals know something about this place that I don’t. On this visit. It seemed nice enough, but it was far from the highlight of my crawl and would be one of the first I drop if I were back for another crawl in the future.

A fairly average but quite tidy Spoons, with a nice garden at the back. It was difficult to tell what the normal beer selection was as there was a festival in full swing, but from that at least there was a good range and seemingly in good condition. I wouldn't mind finding this pub if elsewhere but there are better options in the town.

Straightforward shop conversion; a long and narrow Spoons in a decent state of order, a fairly neutral cream and brown colour scheme with the odd bit of Art Deco style fitting – opened in 1997 so it fits the mould from that era. 12 pumps with six(!) genuine guests; my Hadrian Farne Island was in really good shape (NBSS 4) a clean, bitter and malty brew. Looks like things have taken an upswing here. I enjoyed my beer and grub.

Standard Spoon's in the high street. Ringwood 49er, Wainwright, Oakham Bishops farewell, Hobgoblin and Sweet Chariot on offer plus the usual suspects. Not the most interesting of selections when you consider that Burton is the "home of brewing".

Worse than average Spoons with 10 hand pumps of which six were doubled up and another one was Ruddles. Worst beer selection I've ever seen in a Spoons.

12 pumps including 2 ciders, some ales repeated as per. Very quiet on our early Friday eve visit, the few drinkers that were in here, looked to the remnants from the afternoons drinking. This was a well kept Spoons and the service was pleasant, so we went for the Lymestone Ein Stein, which was in good shape, lucky to have spotted it.

This is a typical shop conversion consisting of a dark low ceilinged long narrow room. I got here just after 11:00 and was surprised to see bouncers on the door but later learned it was because of a footbore match.
The bar here has 12 hand pumps which had the JDW Trio Of Doom and Pedigree doubled up, a cider, Burton Bridge Best, Ringwood Fortyniner and Exmoor Gold. I thought this was a poor choice and given that the standard guest price here is £2.45 there's little incentive to come here when other pubs in town have more interesting beers at around the three quid mark. I went for the keg Devil's Backbone and then left.
Apparently this was once a Woolworths, a rubbish shop that's ended up as a rubbish Spoons.

Normal shop conversion 'spoons with a wide glass and door frontage and a long narrowish rear furnished with separate tables and chairs, the counter as usual runs almost full length down one side. Two banks of six pulls provide the cask offering but with the standards, the local must stocks of Pedigree and Bass plus a cider and the emerging standard of Broadside that doesn't leave much room for guests - there were two including a 'spoons foreign brewer special, can't fault the quality though. A couple of craft kegs - Brewdog This is Lager and Devils Backbone lurked among the UK standards. It's rather dark inside with a low ceiling, a bit reminiscent of the Briar Rose in Birmingham with stained glass over the doors and Art Deco fittings. There's a raised area opposite the counter and some more booth like seating towards the back where there is a rear entrance and a garden.

It's a bit of a JDW by numbers is this one. A narrow frontage goes back quite a way. At the rear there is a raised seating area to the left. Apart from that everything is standard, except that they have the most arrogant, know nothing, manager I've ever come across.
I had a pint of Quartz Berg which was advertised as a cask conditioned lager, I got a copper coloured brown beer. I mentioned this to the barman, who just shrugged, it tasted fine, so I left it it that. We decided to eat here, so we had another round. This time I had Titanic Captains Smiths strong dark mild. What a surprise, it was light and golden. There had obviously been a mix up with the pump clips.
I went and had a polite word with the manager who was talking to the bouncers leaning on the bar. He told me that I was wrong as he had checked as someone else had mentioned it earlier. I told him that it might be an idea to check again as it was definitely wrong. He had a bit of a strop and told me that he knew it was right and that he knew about his beers. I just said "Yeah, right" and walked away.
The pub is a probably about a 6 and the food was decent enough. But as a special treat, for the sheer lack of politeness and customer service the manager is going to get that knocked down. What an arrogant dipstick.
