Blue Scrumpy left this review about Devonshire Arms

I'd passed by this pub a couple of times during the day, but it doesn't open until 4pm on weekdays. Returning shortly after 4pm, I found the pub already doing a brisk trade.

There is a popular front bar and a much quieter lounge to the rear, with an adjoining dining area that was roped off during my visit. Service wasn't the friendliest. But the beer range was better than the Roebuck nearer the station. Regular beers are Burton Bridge Burton Bitter & Stairway to Heaven, Bass, Gates Burton Reservoir & Titanic Plum Porter. Guests were St Austell Proper Job & Dark Star Hophead. Make sure you check the boards, as some ales will be on in the other room.

There were also a number of ciders - Weston's Rosie's Pig Tropical & Rhubarb & Family Vintage & Lilley's Raspberry Mojito Cider, Mango Cider, Cherries & Berries & Fire Dancer.

The last of twelve pubs visited around Burton on a Friday evening, this was by no means a late addition or afterthought, but instead a pleasant two-bar pub with a good location close to the station. You enter into a corridor with the toilets to the left and the bar area through a door to the right. This is a decent Public Bar-style room with some good seating around the front window bay and the servery to the rear. Walls are either exposed brick or else plain painted and decorated with loads of Burton-related breweriana of the sort that you can find all over town. The bar has a nice dark wood counter and traditional bar back with a potentially helpful, but actually out of date beer board to one side. The room is clearly not sufficient for a pub like this, so the corridor runs back, past a pleasant side room with limited seating a=in a narrow space, into a rear room dominated by a large central chimney stack with an unused stove inside. This is a good sized, carpeted room with its own servery to the front and plenty of banquette and low stool seating around the perimeter. Loads more Bass and Burton bridge breweriana lines the walls alongside old maps and photos that wouldn’t look out of place alongside those Wetherspoons ‘local info’ boards. A good indie soundtrack was playing but this mainly got lost under the chatter of a good Friday night turnout.
Five handpulls were in operation, pouring Burton Bridge Stairway To Heaven and Bridge Bitter, Adnams Ghost Ship, Draught Bass and Thornbridge Gold. The Stairway To Heaven was served to me by a very personable barman and drank very nicely - a fittingly good pint to end a day of generally high quality beer around town.
I didn’t have particularly high expectations for this place and it’s easy for it to feel like a bit of an also-ran compared to institutions like the Coopers or Burton Bridge Inn, not to mention the town’s strong micropub scene, but it’s a fine pub in its own right and well worth checking out, especially give the handy location near the trains.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Devonshire Arms

Compact, old-fashioned (in a good way) pub which looks more like something you would expect to find in a village than a town centre. Redecorated since my last visit some ten years ago, although the front public bar still has a plain tiled floor, basic furniture and simple decor. Much larger and more comfortable back bar with several different rear and side seating areas. Formerly a Burton Bridge house, but the selection is extended now with seven different real ales from the five handpumps in each bar, including the Gates Reservoir (£1.80, half).

When alighting from Burton Train Station, Station Street affords a great opportunity for a mini pub crawl of some quality. There are not many towns I know where a short stroll would encompass four quality beer venues as The Roebuck Inn, the Last Heretic, The Devonshire Arms and the Coopers tavern. Although this one may not have the historic character of The Coopers Tavern for example I found it a nice traditional two bar pub, comfortably furnished and with a good range of beers available on its five hand pumps, namely Burton Bridge Brewery Top Dog Stout, Gates Burton Brewery Reservoir, Oakham Inferno, Allsopps Pale Ale and Draught Bass, plus some ciders.
The Oakham Inferno was on top form and an excellent pint to take into and enjoy in the front bar with its open fire. Good to see it being well utilised on this Friday evening with a decent crowd in.

Update
A better and more enjojable second visit here, maybe down to the pub being busier and with company as well as an excellentely conditioned Oakham Inferno. Rating upped by a point to 7.

Not really my sort of pub as it turned out, although basically traditional in layout it was all a little bit too saloon lounge bar in feel for my liking, Five beers were on from the available five sticks, Dancing Duck Aye Up,
Burton Bridge Bitter and Stairway To Heaven along with Butcombe Rare Breed and Bass. I had a Bass for research purposes and annoyingly couldn't knpck it at all, the quality was spot on.
At the end of the day its not a pub I'd automatically choose to visit again.

The pub’s interesting history is well documented on CAMRA’s site and as mentioned, there’s an old Allied ‘Hand’ pub sign outside, the hand in question belonging to Allsopp’s, now reborn, Hand reacquired.
As mentioned by Moby, there’s a bit of a lounge feel in here in an Abigail’s Party type of way, very full and noisy. I did have a half of familiar Oakham’s Inferno, but decided to bail out after a short stay for the tranquillity of the Weighbridge up the road.
This place is fine, but not really worth a special trip.

We were a little disappointed to find this pub closed at lunchtime, when by all advertising it should have been open, although we had been warned in the pub down the road that it probably wouldn't open until 4. Coming back later it proved to be a nice traditional two bar pub, comfortably furnished and with a good range of beers, namely Burton Bridge Stairway to Heaven and Bridge Bitter, Gates Reservoir, Oakham Inferno, Allsopps Pale and Bass, plus some ciders.

All very traditional interior with a front carpeted saloon with bench seating and green banquettes and feeling quite plush. The rear room also has bar access and doors to the garden,so its all quite charming.
This was towards the end of a long crawl so I may have missed a lot but the ale options were Burton Bridge Bitter and Stairway to Heaven with guests Gates Resevoir , Bass and thankfully Oakham Inferno (NBSS 3.5).
Would just about make it onto a crawl list beware that the noon opening maybe a moveable feast during the week.It caught me out but being close to the station it got ticked later in the day.

The old Ind Coop sign outside makes you wonder what you’re going to get. In fact, this is an ex-Burton Bridge pub and is now a freehouse. A two roomed interior via a side corridor and served by a central bar dividing the two; the main bar is where the locals seemed to congregate, it has tiled flooring, a bit of embossed wallpaper, banquette seating and 70's vibe Including a noticeable draught from the windows, which needs attention). There’s a larger room to the rear which I didn’t really explore. Four ales on; Bristol Beer Factory, Bass, Uttoexeter and Burton Bridge Porter (NBSS 3.5) along with three Lilleys ciders. My mid-afternoon visit found the place to be really quiet and I didn’t settle as well as I’d have liked. Suspect I’d have got more out of it later on. 6.5
