Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Drill Inn

The Drill Inn is quite an isolated pub, tucked away down a country lane away from the main part of Burntwood. Its extensive grounds look as though they may attract a sizeable crowd, especially during the summer months. There are huts (presumably heated) in the garden, which may have been a recent addition following the various lockdowns.

Inside is fairly modern and was quite frankly disappointing, considering we had just trudged for nearly 30 minutes over Gentleshaw common and down the lanes to get here. There is a small bar area, where a couple of locals were drinking and a couple of further open-plan dining spaces, where 3 or 4 others were dining or had just finished dining. The couple on the table next to us did pass comment on how enjoyable the food was. Another doorway led into what looked like some kind of winter grotto! But it was most likely the way out to the garden.

The biggest disappointment was the beer range, with just Greene King Abbot & Morland Original available on the 2 handpulls. It wasn't worth the effort of getting here. But if you're driving, fancy decent food and it's a nice day weather-wise, it may just suit.

UPDATE: A detached pub and eatery, with a nice sized patio area at the back, and a small one at the front. The site of this country pub has been occupied for a long time, but currently, it only appears on the maps as a pub from the mid-20th century. The pub is in three parts, stepped in height and in white render. The interior has a couple of rooms. off to the right there is a small room, which is in green and green wood panel. It also has a TV (not on) and was totally deserted. The main room is an L-shape, which is part partitioned by a range of arches - still in Tunisian style! The decor is white artex and some brick, with beams and 70s brasses. There is a brick fireplace. There is a TV, which had a music channel on, softly. There are a few pictures, which seem to be clocks as well. We ate here and the food was really good. The service was friendly and the clientele seemed to be a mix of diners and locals - and friendly too. Beer; usual tap stuff with Doombar, Wells' Good Stuffing and a pleasant Bateman's Rosey Nosey. I am miserable, but this was one of the best Xmas meals i have had - not scrunched in - with a decent beer to enjoy. I will return.

(SEP 2009) A really nice little family orientated country pub, yet just on the outskirts of Burntwood. The 'gaffer' was very friendly, there is a nice beer garden and play area for younger children.

The inside was clean and a little like a hotel in Tunisia, with the alcoves inside - crossed with a 70s pub, with jugs hanging down behind the bar.

Didn't eat, but they do food

The pub had the usual taps, with a couple of real ales, namely Marston's Pedigree - apparently, i missed Hobgoblin by a day!

Would go back

Called in a couple of weeks back - Nice place with a massive garden.
Had a pint of Timmy Taylor Landlord, which was on excellent form.
Did not eat there, but there were many people that were, and the food looked pretty good.
A return visit is definitely on the cards.
