A 6m youth centre could be on the way for Chester city centre but it would mean demolishing the listed Ship Victory pub which the council leaseholders closed at new year.
The OnSide charity has confirmed talks are taking place with Cheshire West and Chester Council about the potential for a ‘Youth Zone’ in Chester, near the proposed new bus station at Gorse Stacks.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Ship Victory

A seemingly out of place detached pub, with white exterior and black paintwork, surrounded by a car-park and not much else, like it survived a redevelopment.

The inside is open plan, with the 70s white artex and beam look, together with what looks like a 70s carpet, the old copper type tables and a piano - it is class. There are, not a shock this, pictures of Nelson and Victory on the walls, amongst other things, as well as Sky TV. Service was fine, clientele absent.

Beer; usual tap stuff, with a decent enough Tetley Dark MILD. Chose this as the handpull choice was limited to Tetley Cask and Ruddles County.

The pub is worth seeking out, it is on the edge of the city centre. We always visit when in Chester.

A lone survivor surrounded by a massive car park. A white painted exterior leads into a one roomed pub that has definitely seen better days, although it was clean and tidy. The wall is full of pictures of Victory & Nelson. The clientele were a bunch of old boys who were obviously regulars on our Wednesday afternoon visit. Sadly the beer range was very lacking with only Tetley Bitter available, it was kept well enough though. I think we'll leave this one to the locals on our next visit to Chester.

This is a little gem small and cozy with very nice well kept beer and lager, very friendly staff, has entertainment at the weekend including a very popular karaoke, jam sessions and live singers, it also has a piano by the bar that is played by some very good pianists from time to time, the landlord and landlady will always find some event to put in the pub for the charity Miles of smiles and Breast cancer charity.
