Located on a market square next to a Wetherspoons that was much busier during my recent Saturday afternoon visit to the area is the Courtyard. There were a handful of other customers, but they were all local as they knew the barmaid on first name terms. The bar is stocked with standard draught alongside San Miguel and I spotted four hand pumps. One of these was unused and the Pedigree was off leaving two hand pumps badged with Hobgoblin. Food is available and there are various drinks deals that led me to believe that this is more of a young person’s pub in the evenings.
There was some low background music playing and the two plasma screens were showing screen saver type displays in between advertisements for the pub.
Out the back is a large courtyard with picnic tables, most of which are covered.
I found the service to be friendly, but the Ikea like décor left me feeling deflated and I wish that I had stayed in the Spoons. A plus note is that because it was quiet I got a peaceful five minutes in trap one so that I could evacuate the previous night’s revelry in peace.

Smart well furnished pub next to a Wetherspoons on the market square.Called in before the racing to a surprisingly quiet pub which had 2 casks on and all the beer prices were very competitive including the Hobgoblin at £2.69p a pint.
