Will Larter left this review about The Millstone

This is a food-led pub, as signified by the various shades of olive drab paint on the outside walls and woodwork. The front of the pub is given over to a carvery and its associated smells, leaving the smaller lounge to the rear and left for the drinker, should one happen to drop in. On the bar are the usual fonts plus two hand pumps, but there is only ever one beer on: Sharps Doom Bar. This was very pricey, at £1.70 for a half, but then I paid the same for Taylors Landlord at the Oak and I was told it was also the same at the Scarbrough, though other beers were cheaper there.

The lounge was furnished with a split of high and low tables, with their associated chairs, plus a couple of leather sofas near the sole feature of interest: the fireplace. This would indeed have been something worth focussing on, had it not been boarded up and a tiny (and I mean tiny) solid fuel stove stood in front of it. Altogether, with the smell of the carvery meats and the loud background music, I found this place rather depressing. I dare say it hits the nail on the head for those in search of a carvery meal, but drinkers are advised to pass by on the other side.
