Brainy Pool left this review about Marlbororough Arms

Still a solid enough traditional pub providing some calm in the centre of Chester, but with a strange sort of atmosphere, hard to put my finger on it. Flowers on tables remain, but it feels a bit careworn and almost tatty in places. expensive and not overly impressive Stonehouse beers on the bar.

First time I’ve visited this famous spelling mistake when it wasn’t rammed so I got a seat at one of the long wooden tables and benches at the back and was able to read the rather unimaginative graffiti scribbled thereon. The front area is fairly woody with casks, a long pine table, a round wooden table and a battered sofa; while the rear has a quarry tile floor, wood panelling and some neat tiles. The counter is dominated by four large ceramic dispensers, four pulls sit between the middle two. Only two beers on and only one was a Stonehouse beer, the other being a Porter from Chester Beer Company, who are listed as a nano brewery on Untapped, WhatPub says Stonehouse beers exclusively sold in its description of the pub. Average quality.

Saturday evening visit and first time in this pub. Four hand pulls at the bar all offering Stonehouse ales. I went for Off The Rails and my drinking accomplice had Sunlander, both of which were fine. Lots of stripped back wood inside, which I imagine would originally have been stained dark. Fairly nice place overall, mix of furniture/seating, relaxed feel to the place.

Real Ale Ray left this review about Marlbororough Arms

A good traditional pub with three Stonehouse ales on handpump on our visit. We went for the Cambrian Gold and their Station Bitter, both were in good shape and had good flavour. We parked ourselves at the rear of the pub, where we found long benches and tables and if you fancy it, you can sign the table top. Also I noticed a row of colourful Victorian tiles running across the middle of the wall panelling. All in all, a comfortable pub with a nice laid back atmosphere.

They had four Stonehouse ales on in here - Off the Rails, Station Bitter, Cambrian Gold, and Sunlander. I didn't see any sign of food when I was in during a Wednesday afternoon.

This is a long thin pub. It has a mixture of bare boards and quarry tiles for flooring, and furnishings are mainly normal tables and chairs (at the front of the room), with two large 12-seater or so wooden tables at the back accompanied by hard wooden backless benches. There are a couple of large barrels obstructing the floor space, but with no tall stools so presumably for vertical drinkers?

There are chalkboards on a wall at the back notifying you of the Stonehouse beers available, and the "whiskey/whisky" menu, including Japanese whiskies as well as Scotch and Irish of course. There's also a chalkboard detailing George Orwell's full missive on his mythical perfect pub, the Moon Under Water. This is a quite ordinary pub; nice enough but nothing very special. My companions' teas came with a little chocolate sweet, which I'm advised is a good thing.

I've tried to like this place but the Stonehouse stuff is not particularly good and it does border on the expensive side.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Marlbororough Arms

Brewer's Tudor facade, with the narrow interior stripped out to leave mostly bare boards but some stone tiles at back. Limited furniture, comprising sofas at front, a few upended barrels and long thin tables at the rear. A bit dark, but the side windows towards the back help. Three of four handpumps in operation, all offering Stonehouse Brewery ales: Station Bitter, Cambrian Gold and Sunlander (£2.80) Also had a range of imported bottled beers plus Briska pear cider and Mongozo banana beer on tap. NB - The strange name apparently results from a signwriter's error.

Oggwyn Great left this review about The Marlborough Arms

Slightly past its best pub in need of a little TLC , it was friendly enough but very quiet , only a couple of locals and a rowdy group on a pub crawl who didnt stay long . 4 Stonehouse beers on , i had a Station Bitter which was very good and served in a proper handle glass . This place has the potential to be a good pub , good beer , decent service it just needs a bit of work to tidy it up a bit

Soup Dragon left this review about The Marlborough Arms

A detached, but narrow pub, with black wood and white exterior, seemingly a little abandoned.

The interior is one small and narrow room, with a side bar area. The decor is a terquoisey colour, with wood panel and white ceiling. There is a wood floor and decoration is supplied by old posters and adverts on the walls. There are manly tables and chairs, though there is a sofa and a few barrells dotted about. Service was friendly and the place empty, other than us and a mature lady taking a shopping break.

Beers; tap stuff, with a few continental lagers, but on the handpulls there were four Stonehouse Brewery offerings; Off the Rails, Premium Ale, Wheatbeer and Cambrian Gold, all of which were kept well and drinkable at worst.

I liked this little place. It had changed since my last visit, and i will be going back.

very small cramped pub, difficult to find a little tucked out of the way, has had a number of owners over the past few years, the beer in well kept but a little expensive, ideal for shoppers during a lunch break.
