peter ashworth left this review about The Mill of the Black Monks

The supposedly haunted Mill of the Black Monks dates back to the 1150's and was originally a watermill which was later passed into the hands of the Benedictines and in the 17th Century taken over by the Quakers. The place reopened in September 2018 and is a family friendly Restaurant/Pub type of place. A few years ago it was an Italian restaurant but the new owners have introduced The Watering Hole which i think is in the basement (Which a few years ago was being used as a cannabis farm)
The pub is certainly old and seems to be on 4 levels although i only visited the bar nearest the entrance which was up a few steps to the left on entry after ascending the outdoor stone steps. No cask beer in this bar just the usual suspects on show but not sure on the basement bar. At the rear is a large beer garden and children's play area while at the front an adult beer garden although there was no tables and chairs to be seen Worth a visit not so much for the beer but more for the historical interest.
There is a sign at the front of the pub claiming to be England's oldest pub (yet another) but i was not having any of that.
