A very well kept village pub, currently owned by Diken and used as a cash generator from people visiting the motor museum, opposite. They offer B&B. There is small carpark at the front and a garden with some bench seats. The front bar is mainly a drinkers' area, and there is a separate area with a pool table. The rear room is set out as a restaurant and is exclusively for diners. The staff were mostly OK, though the barmaid was a bit surly as we were leaving. Food was overpriced and over-cooked, and it took a long time to arrive. The beer was a much better experience – Old Thumper, Jennings's Cumberland, Otter and Marston's 61 Deep were all in excellent condition. I'd be very happy to come back for the beer, but lunchtimes are best avoided due to the tourists.

The Sparkford Inn is ideal for stopping off at when en route on Somerset's great superhighway, the A303. Bypass the expanded polystyrene wrapped McDonalds at the A303 Sparkford services and head into the village to find this large roomy inn.
Nothing to fault it really - as a restaurant. However if it is a pub with a selection of locals propping up the bar that you want then go elsewhere. On our visit on a damp Tuesday night we were the only people there, and as a result the atmosphere was somewhat lacking. Two beers on - Pedigree and Ringwood best and were good value - £2.25 for the Best, £3 for Pedigree (it is s Marstons pub after all). The beers were served a touch too cold and the Pedigree was nothing like what a decent pint of it used to taste like 20 odd years ago.
It's a shame that village pubs need to turn themselves into roadside diners to survive, the good news is that at least this pub is still open. For now.

A Marstons Inn, the Sparkford Inn is a large, comfortable country village inn with three comfortable bar areas for eating or drinking as well as a restaurant and a function room. Always a friendly welcome and very good service, the ales are well-kept and the food is very well cooked, decent sized portions and very reasonable in price.

We visited again last night - it was quite busy and we were greeted with a very warm welcome. Ringwood Best and Forty-niner were both in excellent condition. Third ale was EPA. My wife had steak and I had a mixed grill - which were huge, very well cooked and excellent value for money. My wife's only complaint (it's compulsory for her to have at least one) was that her side salad was too 'ordinary'. Two steak dinners, two desserts, two pints of ale and a bottle of sparkling wine all for £52 - bargain. We'll certainly be back. Well above average.

My wife and I visited this Pub two years ago, and it was great.
We decided to call in there this year on our way to Devon. What a mistake!! There were very few people in the place, and now we know why. The beer was yeasty, not well kept at all. The barman really did not want to know, it was an effort to take our Lunch order. 2 x Ploughmans, not over taxing. It took ages to arrive and was not woth the wait.
The place seems to rely upon passing trade - My advice, pass by.
