now far more tightly managed by Greene King including imposing their own beer. Rating reduced - not worth a visit anymore.

I passed by today and noted three hand pulls at the bar, offering Old Speckled Hen, Ruddles County and Olde Trip. This is a Greene King pub.

The Dublin Packet is a long thin pub with a bar on the rear wall that faces the entrance. There is some seating and a dartboard to the left and booth seating to the right which leads to the toilets. Plasma screens are located throughout for showing Sky Sports and a jukebox was playing some random background music. A standard and premium keg range is available from the bar that supports two handpumps that were drawing Greene King’s London Glory and Old Speckled Hen. I didn’t see any food advertisements. The service was polite, but I struggled to get comfortable so will not return anytime soon.

a long, narrow basic boozer. vaguely Irish and Christmas themed today (and plenty of old red noses on display). very friendly and not as bad as I expected from the last review though possibly more rough around the edges later on. Mill Green Goose and Directors the two real ales.

Not the best. Always seems to be full of deadheads and bladdered up tramps whenever I've been in. The pub is long and thin with the bar to you're left on entering and a long thin room to your right. Go in it to say youve been by all means but there are much much better places to go nearby. Still, you may like it.

Black and white timbered pub which is very narrow with a seating area to the right which is nearly a corridor. Nicely decorated with dark mauve walls. This pub seems to serve the more mature end of the market. There were 2 cask ales available, although they weren't very inventive being Old Speckled Hen & Doombar. My pint of Doombar was in decent nick though. I settled down with my pint and read one of the papers supplied by the pub. It wouldn't be my first choice pub in Chester for the ale range, but it's a hell of a lot better than shopping with the other half & her mother.

A town centre terraced pub, with small beer patio. The exterior has white rusticated stone effect, but mainly white and timber, with dormer windows.

The interior is one long room, with a dining area and a drinking area. We ate here a few times when we last visited a couple of years back and the food was fine, there was also something that was either either real ale, or MILD. That had sadly gone, or was unavailable, so our recent visit saw us go in and straight out, hence a less than full account. There was some sporting memorabilia and Sky TV, and i did remember that it seemed to be a haven for the more maturer diner. Shame I couldnt drink anything here.

I have never had a bad beer in this pub, and have been drinking there for a few years, once known as the Dixie Deans because of its association with the great ex Everton football player, who actually run the pub during the fiftys and the name stuck with the locals as Dixies.

This pub is very small but a wonderful place for shoppers to have a meal and drink during a visit to the city, friendly people and always good staff during the afternoon but during the night becomes a mecca for students from the nearby Chester university.
