A village freehouse. The interior is nicely described by BrewGuru, below. The car park is in the process of being resurfaced so feels a bit like a battlefield at the moment, an image enhanced by the presence of a dilapidated caravan which appears to have been dumped there. From the car park you enter the pub through an odd garden, fenced and laid with astroturf. There are a couple of tables and garden chairs there, and it's a non-smoking area, so it begs the question as to what it is used for. Inside is still battered, but in a homely way, the walls adorned with several prints of long-dead village characters. The main bar is convoluted, being formed from several smaller rooms, and there is a square shaped games room with a pool table. There were 2 ales on draft, Pride and Doombar, both in reasonable condition. It's a good enough local, but given the perilous roads to get here I'm not sure it's a destination of choice.

Now reopened by a local family this pub is at least still here.
Interior wise little has changed from the previous owner with a large lounge with areas cordorned off by brickwork and benches to give a slight sense of intimacy.
Beers on were Butcombe supplied with Rare Breed featuring and London Pride as a guest. Thatchers heritage on the bar provided a real cider choice.
The pub is now serving food again which I would have thought is vital if it is to survive. However I feel it needs to do better. The massive car park at the back is under utilised, a nice beer garden for summer would be an option with all the land, not tarmac. Pleasant enough but not outstanding.

Large lane side pub in a cluster of houses known as Holywell. (a mile south of the A30 as it enters Yeovil). A freehouse beers were from Cottage and branscombe Vale. They were served with a chill haze, the outside cellar being too cold at this time of year. Otherwise no complaints. No food though which is surprising as these sort of rural pubs surely depend on this trade.
