Jumbo JDW with an entrance at both ends, must be about a quarter of a mile walk between the two! Lots of booths, plenty of history on the walls and a bit of glass and mirror action. Interesting semi-circular toilet doors with stained glass fish and ecclesiastical mirrors. Eight guest ales alongside the stagers; 3x Twisted brewery and five Spoons beer fest ales – that seemed rather too many to me. Tried two of the guests, Cairngorm Red (NBSS 2.5) and Daleside Morocco (3) both a little ‘long pour’ but fine. Decent Spoons, but its sister down the road was better. There is a 20% reduction on meals for CAMRA card carrying members and I wish I’d known this prior to ordering two rounds of Timbo Nando.

The innocuous looking frontage to this one hides a massive Spoons inside, possibly the largest one on a single floor that I've seen. It goes back several hundred yards with the bar roughly in the middle to the left. It's narrow, low ceilinged and rather gloomy but there is a conservatory at the rear where there is another small bar on the left. It was doing quite a fair trade on my Thursday early afternoon visit with shoppers families and others. The small bar at the rear has been turned into a "cider bar" with the four hand pumps just having cider. The main bar has two banks of six hand pumps which had the JDW Trio Of Doom, Great Western Exhibitionist, Exmoor XPA, Butcombe Mendip Spring, Marston's One Is 90, Wood's Shropshire Lad, Bath Barnsey, Daleside Old Legover, Dartmoor Jail Ale and the JDW / Everard's Defender. I went for the XPA (£2.35) which was in very good nick. I thought this was a reasonably good Spoons and certainly preferred it to the Coal Orchard. The JDW directory claims that this is a Lloyds but I could see absolutely no evidence of that.

A fairly standard ‘Spoons in an old furniture shop in what used to be Taunton’s main shopping street. The shop is huge – not wide, but it runs back a very long way. It is carpeted, decorated according to the normal ‘Spoons drab standard and has a great many tables, chairs and sofas from which to choose. The clientele are the usual ‘Spoon fodder, and on this occasion we counted no fewer than 17 mothers with pushchairs/prams, plus one breastfeeding as she walked in. The staff were fairly inefficient, the girl who served us was almost innumerate – unable to work out the value of the coinage we had given her. There appeared to be six ales on, but with so many randomly placed ‘coming soon’ signs it was hard to tell, and we couldn’t risk asking the staff to count to more than six (the number of fingers on one hand). The Bath Ales’s Cobblestone was in very good condition and served at a decent temperature, so it wasn’t all bad. I’d be happy to come back for a pint and I would include in a crawl but wouldn’t pretend to like it.

Not particularly good - even for a 'spoons! The place needs a bit of a clean, if not a major recoration. Some of the staff could do with a bit of waking up and some extra customer care training. The normal decent selection of well-kept ales and microwaved frozen pre-packed food of the chain. Well below average.

Not the best Wetherspoons in the land; not even the best Wetherspoons in Taunton. Usual problems I'm afraid. Tables piled high with used meals due to lack of staff and only 2 unenthusiastic and untrained bar staff serving in busy times leading to the usual 10-15 minute waiting time. 12 handpumps although half of these are usually 'available soon'.
