February 2012. Party of 15. Pre-booked and Pre-ordered main meals/starters. What a very customer orientated public house this is. We had contacted beforehand due to large size of party and they happily offered to open earlier and get the fire going for us. (Normally start serving food from 6pm but because staff were available opened their doors at 5.30pm for us. We have one vegetarian in our party but there was nothing in the online menu listed. They asked what she liked and came to an agreement and produced a beautiful butter nut squash with sultanas. The remaining food was served quickly and was beautiful with large portions and very well cooked. The service was not only good but light natured and interactive. They are a very friendly pub and after a dog left in one of our vehicles had tripped the car alarm the owner was invited to bring the dog in and everybody fussed over her (the dog not the owner - although......). The deserts were voluminous and very tasty but at £5.05 each they are on the expensive side. All in All it was a fantastic evening and the service was brilliant. So why not a 10/10. Well the problem was we had made our selections from the online menu and if we had paid attention we would have seen that it was not very up to date (picture of Will & Kate) so when we came to settle up the prices had obviously increased over that time and so we ended up paying more than expected. Now we as a group have eaten in many places and the actual prices were quite competitive for the food we had but when you go in expecting one price and end up with another then it does take the shine off a little. Still 9 out of ten is highly recommended in our book.
