A basic village pub, no frills and no pretense. The building is a pleasant brick-built house on a corner, with a fairly untidy gravel car park at the side. There is a garden with a children’s play area at the back. The single bar is vaguely L-shaped, basically decorated and furnished, mainly bench seats and a few tables, a wooden floor and a functional, in inelegant, fireplace. There is a dartboard, pool table, and two skittle alleys which double as function rooms. Dogs are welcome, and both the landlord and landlady are engaging and friendly. Sadly there was no ale on during this visit, as they hadn’t ordered any due to concerns about COVID. There was a choice of bottled ale, though – 2 from Butcombe, and Spitfire. I’d like to come back and try again when they’ve got some ale on.

recently refurbished but more on the style of a city wine bar than a village local
(real ale from Sharps Bry)
