E TA left this review about The Prickly Pear

Previously The Castle and The Bruton castle, this rebranded pub feels a bit of an anomaly here in Bruton, but it works well. The theme is somewhere between Bohemian and Goth, and although the décor has changed considerably since JAQPTIO’s review, below, the layout has not, although there is now a small, gaudy stage at the back for live acts. There is a woodburner in the stone fireplace, which seemed ineffective. There was over-loud music emanating from the HiFi, which seemed to detract from the atmosphere. Only one ale on, Butcombe Original, which was in average condition. On keg were Keller Pils, Grolsch, Bibble Pale Ale, Guinness, Skoosh Session IPA and Devon Mist Cider. There is also a large fridge in the front bar with a selection of bottles and canned beers and ciders, mostly craft. Two members of staff were present, a pleasant young female and a weird young male in a tracksuit and baseball cap; the latter looked a bit lost. Food was ‘contemporary’, apparently, and crispy tempeh tacos, whatever they are, were being pushed as a special. It was a bit of fun, but it wouldn’t be my first choice in the town.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Bruton Castle

Solid High Street building, standing out as it is painted white rather than featuring the local golden stone. The main bar has been refurbished in a semi-modern style with a mix of tables, but further back there is the pool / table tennis / live music room and (less obviously) another room round the back of the bar with plain furniture. Small patio area to one side. Two real ales on handpump: Bath Ales Gem and the local Same Again session beer from Milk Street Brewery in Frome (£3.50). NB - Does not open until 16:00 Monday to Thursday.
