E TA left this review about Anchor Inn

An unusual village pub, off the beaten track, and in an historic location. Parts of the building are 18th Century, originally three cottages, but modernised and expanded. Ceiling beams from ships’ timbers are evident, and while the Anchor is the last pub left in the village, there was previously a Ship, both pubs serving the once-thriving port at the mouth of the River Parrett. The location allows outstanding views over the local countryside, and there is a balcony seating area on the first floor allowing views thereof. There is a small gravel car park at the front, and some outside seating at ground level. The pub offers B&B and pub grub, including sandwiches and bagels. The bar is a knock-through, running the full length of the front of the building. At one end is an inglenook with a woodburner, at the other a large fireplace which has been converted into a wine store with an iron grid to protect the contents. There is a large TV screen at the inglenook end, and various gaming machines are present. The staff are very welcoming, especially Steve, the landlord, who has had a varied life and has some god stories to share. Ales on were Ruddles Best and Old Speckled Hen, an unadventurous choice for a Somerset pub, and it was a surprise to see no real cider. Keg offerings were Guinness, three from Thatchers, Carlsberg, San Miguel and Portland IPA. I really enjoyed the visit, but I did feel the beer selection could have been better. That said, I’d be happy to come back up this way again.
