Real Ale Ray left this review about The Malthouse

The interior in here was featureless apart from a wood stove over to the left as you enter. The decor consisted of walls painted in grey, brown timber floors along with a dark blue painted bar front. Four handpumps with two in operation serving Lancaster Bomber and Wainwright Amber. The majority of the customers were in here for a bite to eat on our visit. The staff member was welcoming and pleasant but was under pressure trying to get plates of food out as well as running the bar.

Having noted Squire ROB's review on the colour, I can now confirm that this Georgian (former pub and malthouse) are now in cheerful grey - which I think looks great. Has a front patio. The interior has two areas forming an L-shape around the bar, both are very plain and feel foody (the one area does have wood burner fireplace for interest). There was no TV and the music was at a decent level. Service was fine and the clientele diners, gin drinkers or outside so I couldn't tell. Beer saw the usual tappy stuff with 4 real ales: Marston's Iron Bridge Gorge (house brew), Tetley Pale Ale, Slater's Peaky Blinders IPA and Kansas Cap'n Bill's Chestnut Ale, which was very good. A better experience than I first feared - but the grey plainness made me feel miserably welcome! Worth a swifty.

For some reason this pub is painted bright yellowy orange. It's a large pub with two lounges/bars. Obviously aimed at the tourist and dining trade as it certainly doesn't have the feel of a pub. The bar serving cask ale is to the left of the door, it has 3 handpumps but only Bombardier was on and that wasn't very good either. The right hand lounge is decorated with hearts/pouting lips type memorabilia. It would be fine for Valentines day but just looked cheesy to me. Can't think of any reason why I would ever visit this place again.

Nice restaurant & a couple of indifferent real ales. Live entertainment which is usually quite good. Near the river. Has a very small car park but is in easy walking distance of a couple of municipal car parks. In my humble view this is (I regret to say) the best (north bank)riverside pub in central Ironbridge. Like all the others on the riverside its a bit of a tourist trap. Gets quite lively at weekends.
