The Coalport dates from the 1800s and takes its name from the now long gone local coal industry , it was also the first port of call on the infamous Oakengates main street pub crawl which took in 16 pubs all in a few feet from one to the other , sadly only five of the pubs remain .
The Coalport today hides its age well , the bar is to the right of the entrance past a supporting pillar that divides the pub , to the rear the old lounge is now a resturant .
Usual keg taps and a solitary handpull with a just about OK Thwaites Original .
The service was OK from the friendly diplomatic barmaid , the clientelle were of the lower end of the food chain mostly crowded around the bar , a couple of rough blokes just glaring silently at their pints , a very drunk middle-aged couple swearing loudly and giving the barmaid a hard time and a group of hardened drinkers on a mission down in a corner .
It serves its purpose but i would not recomend it

Situated just out of the town centre , this pub was refurbished early last year before closing down again after a few months , as you enter there is a pool table to the left , to the right is a seating area and the bar , further round is more seating and entrance to the beer garden , the pub is basially C shaped , service was very friendly (pub was only opened yesterday) no real ale on , but landlord says he will give it a try once pub is established , will review again in a few weeks after things have settled down

Called in last night as I'd heard it had reopened. Tap room with dart board & pool table to the left and a lounge area at the back where they have live music on. It was dead when I went in at about 7 with only 2 others in the bar. The landlord Colin was very friendly, but when I asked him why he didn't stock cask ale he told me that he couldn't sell it here! Given that almost all the other pubs in Oakengates do, I couldn't really buy in to that argument. I pointed out that on-one else sold cask Thwaites in the town so it was a potential niche for him. He just said "I like my smooth! Best of luck then mate as the only area of growth recently has been cask ale and I probably won't bother calling again. By the way I had a pint of Guinness, it was just like Guinness, boring.
