The Bulls Head is a typical Victorian Terraced Pub that over the years has been expanded into the adjoining cottage and a modern extension built on the back.
A pub since 1838 the older part of the pub that we see today dates from the early 1900s , the upper front of the pub is covered with green encausti tiles , while the lower frontage has a large heavily engraved double window flanked by brown tiled pillars with a mosaic pattern , the entrance is on the right .
The front bar or Spirit Vaults according to the window engraving has a plain glazed tile floor with the walls covered in encaustic tiles set out in a number of geometric patterns , the bar has inlaid panels and the backbar is inlaid with shelves and mirrors .
A tiled passage directly on from the front door leads to the toilets(with a cllection of saucy postcards) and the modern lounge which is L shaped , there is a large TV playing a music channel at loud volume , has you follow it around steps lead to a lower level which was once the adjoining cottage , this lower area has a nicely engraved glass panel and the side entrance which currently acts as the main entrance .
Usual keg taps and five handpulls , only one on during my visit with an OK Lymestone Stoneutter , service was friendly enough , customers were mainly youngsters on my visit .
The major problem here is for some reason if you want to drink in the fabulous Victorian bar you normally have to ask for the lights to be turned on , the landlady seems perplexed why anyone would want to drink in the bar rather than the could be anywhere modern lounge , maybe i am just getting old .
The Bulls head is a fine example of a late victorian bar and well worth a visit just to sample it , if only the licencees could see what an asset they have got this pub could be a real gem again .

Good news for the Bulls Head , its finally got a landlord who appreciates the fantastic bar (the pictures dont do it justice) he has made the bar the focal point of the pub , even to extent of closing the side entrance so you have to enter the pub through it . Better news still 10 handpulls on the bar , 6 on last night , 3 from Black Country Brewery (its a BCB pub), 1 from Corvedale , 1 from Titanic and 1 with Cheddar Valley Cider . The landlord has got rid of the morons who used to plague it and a lot of the old regulars are coming back , there is a good atmosphere and conversation is the main form of entertainment . Overall well worth a visit , lets hope he keeps it up

Good beer , staff good service if not that friendly . Bar fantastic but no one in there no pulls working , everything centred on dull modern lounge why? bar should be the centrepiece of this classic pub .

The Bulls Head is a spectacular pub that has been recently refurbished. It is now owned by a small company rather than a faceless pubco. The Shropshire Gold is great, the whole pub is spotless and the husband & wife team (Rob & Trish) are firm with the undesirables but really friendly and welcoming to everyone else. The victorian bar is unique - there isn't anything even similar within 30 miles!
Give the pub a visit - Rob & Trish deserve to be succesful in their venture and anyone who appreciates clean friendly traditional pubs that serve good beer and food should visit and support them.
