Real Ale Ray left this review about The Royal Oak

A small and comfortable BCA pub which had the main L shaped bar and lounge area on the left along with an open fire and a dart board at the rear. There was a quieter smaller lounge on the right, which also had upholstered button back bench seating and the pub was carpeted throughout. Six ales on handpump, four BCA and two guest, I went for the Black Country BFG and Mrs A went for the Salopian Hiding in Plain Sight.

Aqualung . left this review about The Royal Oak

As noted below, this one has been given an excellent makeover by Black Country Ales. Sadly the L shaped carpeted bar area suffers from the Curse Of Sky Sports which everybody seemed to be ignoring. The small lounge to the right is a welcome refuge from this dross.
There are ten hand pumps which on my Wednesday evening visit had one unused, a kiddies strength Sloe Cider, a Corvedale beer, Wye Valley HPA and the three BCA beers doubled. For a Black Country Ales outlet this was a disappointment but this one is probably too far from the town centre to make it a destination pub being more of a local. I went for the Wye Valley HPA (£3.10) which was in good nick.
I don't know if they do more guest ales at a weekend but simply as a local boozer this one is OK.

Two bar pub in Brewers Tudor in a group of three about 10 mins walk from railway station, one of which The Woodman being in the GBG. Owned by Black Country Ales its in very good decorative order, recent refurbished perhaps. 9 beers mostly BCA of course and a hand pulled cider, there are a half dozen kegs from the national collection. Darts and fruit machine along with piped music. A decent place and good quality beer.

Oggwyn Great left this review about Royal Oak

A big change here , the layout is still the same , a large L shaped bar area and a small lounge, its had a clean up and been redecorated in a modern style .
10 handpulls on the bar with 3 from the new owners Black Country Brewery ,BFG , Pig on the Wall and Fireside , 6 guests and a real cider , i had a pint of Big Bog Spring Bog in decent nick .
Gone are the sweary clientelle and Landlord replaced with a slightly more middle class custom , the Landlord was very friendly and samples of beers offered unbiden .
I had a pleasant half hour in here chatting to some friendly Old Boys , lets hope it does well , makes a good double with the virtually next door Woodman.

Great looking pub from the outside , very busy on my visit , the bar was pretty full , the small lounge empty . Most of the conversations seemed to be a random selection of F and C words strung together very loudly , the landlord one of the main culprits , no real ale on so i had a Guiness . The service was disintrested exept for locals . They must be doing something right for it to be so busy but its not my type of pub at all , wont bother again

ROB Camra left this review about Royal Oak

This pub has a great looking black and white timbered exterior. Has a very large tap room to the left dominated by 2 dartbords and 2 huge TVs. There is a small lounge to the right with comfy seating. Two handpumps on the bar, both badged Bass. No Bass was actually available. The landlord was so busy talking to the lounge customers that he had to be told by one of them that I was waiting to be served. Ended up having a pint of fizz. I should have walked out really as the clientele consisted of half a dozen loud blokes whose every third word started with F. Has accomodation available but nothing could persuade me to stay here for a night. Not good.
