With a front car park so large that Jeremy Clarkson could do doughnuts in it, this is a bit of a strange pub which is a bit estate boozer meets traditional, but marked out by the enormous bowling green to the rear, on which the Ashes could be played out should Lord's be out of action.
Seemingly a friendly locals' pub, I plumped for a half of the Hobson's Champion Mild which was ok but unexceptional.
This pub is certainly worth seeking out when hanging out in Shrewsbury Town.

I really enjoyed my visit here, I found the barmaid to be friendly and welcoming, along with one of the regulars, who had popped in for a quiet pint. Six ales on handpump with two fairly national beers Wainwright and Tribute. The four other choices were, two from Hobsons, Twisted Spire and a Mild, along with Salopian Golden Thread and Stonehouse Sunlander. I went for the Stonehouse, which was good and if I had more time, I would have tried at least another three. A decent back street pub that is definitely worth seeking out and not very far from the centre of town.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Prince of Wales

Very good, traditional pub hidden way in the Belle Vue suburb beyond Coleham, but well worth seeking out. Relatively basic furniture and decor, but the bowling green at the back comes as a surprise in such a built-up area (as does the size of the front car park, as I imagine that most customers must always have walked here). Well-chosen selection of six real ales on handpump, including a fine Hobson's Champion Mild (£3.20), with the next three marked-up on the board as 'coming soon' also looking promising.

A proper pub. Hidden in the terraced backstreets of Coleham is a large, high-ceilinged Victorian pub which just feels right somehow. To the rear is a large decked area overlooking its own immaculate bowling green. Ales on offer were Hobsons Mild and Twisted Spire, Stonehouse Sunlander, Salopian Golden Thread, Wainwight and Tribute. A regular winner of awards and rightly so. well worth the short walk from town.

A very nice back street local with two rooms, the right hand one being larger and extending around to the rear where there's a view out to the bowling green. Half a dozen hand pumps on each side of the bar, mostly duplicates so that there were seven beers and a cider on at the time of our Saturday lunchtime visit. We were impressed with the Hobsons Dark Mild, but it was off when we went back for another. Choice then was between a lot of pale beers, two national brands and some locals. I tried the St Annes Three Erics, a session beer at 3.7%, but luckily I only had a half because it was massively astringent. I then tried the Clun Oriel, a table beer at just 2.7%, which slipped down well but without leaving any impression. Luckily at this point the Dark Mild came back on, so we finished on a high note. My drinking companions had steak and ale pie with chips and peas, a huge plateful for just £5 each; naturally as a vegetarian I didn't partake. The pub was very busy before the kick off at Shrewsbury Town's Water Meadows Stadium, which is a couple of miles out of town: one of the regulars here arranges a coach which picks up a couple of streets away. This pub has won the local Camra pub of the year award several times, most recently 2015, 2016 and 2017, and was runner up in 2018, and on beer quality and friendly atmosphere I would say it was a worthy winner.

Old Boots is right, the Prince of Wales does have that estate pub feel. We arrived just as an 80th birthday party was breaking up and ended up the last people in the place. The beer was mediocre, but the worst thing was the funny smell in the main bar. Non of our party of 6 could stand to be in the place and we went out onto the rear deck to drink our beer. On finishing we found that there was no option but to hold our breath and dash back out through the pub. I have no idea what the smell was, it was just unpleasent and un-necessary.

Well hidden in the backstreets of the Belle Vue neighbourhood, south of the town centre, the Prince of Wales is a tidy two bar community pub. The lounge bar, on the right as you enter, is a reasonably sized carpeted room which winds around a centrally positioned servery. The walls are half panelled with wallpaper above and there is a good range of comfortable seating throughout. The decor includes various photos, beer adverts, mirrors and a good selection of Shrewsbury Town football memorabilia. The pub has good links with the football club and runs a minibus down to the ground on match days, although I made the trip on foot and thought it wasn’t too far to walk. The public bar on the other side of the servery has more basic seating as well as a dartboard and a large TV screen. The back of the pub is well lit thanks to some large windows which look out to the beer garden, which seemed to be pretty spacious.
The pub has found its way into recent editions of the Good Beer Guide and boards outside detailed upcoming beer festivals, so I was keen to see what was on at the bar. The choice on my visit was from St Austell Tribute, Mitchell and Butler Mild, Hobson’s Twisted Spire (£2.90), Thwaites Wainwright, Greene King IPA, Salopian Golden Thread and Clark’s Classic Blonde. I decided to give the Hobson’s a go and thought it was an excellent pint at a reasonable price. The staff and locals seemed like a friendly bunch, with fans of both sets of teams mingling and chatting after the match.
I left this pub with the impression of a well run establishment that looks after its regulars and is welcoming to new faces. Given the wealth of options in the town centre, it might not quite merit the walk out here, but it is well worth a look if you find yourself in the neighbourhood.

Old Boots left this review about The Prince Of Wales

A two bar, back street local, looking and feeling a bit like an estate pub. Full of close knit locals and a barmaid who knows her locals well. It’s fairly modern inside in spite of the early 20th Century exterior, carpeted through out and with wooden furniture. Don’t be put off by the Greene King badges the four handpulls in the main bar sell a range of admittedly mainly mainstream beers but kept in fine order as the collection of GBG stickers will testify. The beer was a tad cold but no problems when it warmed up. There is a popular garden at the back.

Difficult to find pub in the backstreets of Bell Vue , well worth a visit though , pretty busy on my visit but service was quick and friendly , there is a large bowling green out the back with seating from Shrewsburys old Gay Meadow Ground (the pub is an acctive supporter of the club and run coachs to away games)and some old advertising boards brighten up the beer patio . Five real ales on Salopian Golden Thread , GK IPA , Theakstons Mild , St Austell Tribute and Hydes Ringmaster , i had Golden Thread which was very good . This is a decent pub well worth finding

ROB Camra left this review about The Prince Of Wales

Two roomed pub with the main room being aimed more towards food as the tables and chairs are all dining type ones with red coverings, all in good condition. Loads of plates around the walls along with several "yards of ale". Large bowling green out the back that has some of the seats from the old Gay Meadow football ground round the outside. Five beers on the bar GK IPA, St Austell Tribute, Salopian Golden Thread and Blarney plus Theakston's Mild. Had a pint of the Blarney which was fine. Friendly bar staff, but hardly anyone in at 8 p.m. even on Paddy's night. It's well worth a visit though.
