This is a pub with a great exterior with black and white timbers which overhang the street and mullioned windows. Sadly once you get inside it's been opened out into one room from what obviously used to be at least two and possibly three. There are low beams, lots of brass and bric-a-brac around the walls along with pictures of old Shrewsbury. For some reason the beams are all hung with fairy lights. There is blue covered seating to the left which is pretty decent and two dartboards to the right as you enter. There's an "ancient painting of the Last Supper" on the wall which has a plaque underneath it that says SOME people have said that it MAY depict the last supper. Lets be honest it's too faded to be sure what it shows.
On the bar are a standard range of lagers, there is a handpump but there wasn't even a pumpclip on it, so I have to assume it's not used. Last night the clientele consisted of two p*ssed up old farts, swearing at each other and a slightly dodgy looking couple surrounded by shopping bags sat in the window seat. All this action whilst listening to the adverts played on the local radio station which was the "background music". There is so much potential here, sadly it's pretty crap all round at the moment.

Go if you must, personally I'd sooner have an extra hole in my head. Between the town centre & the river. Dark, drab, dreary. Beer well below average. One star for being a nice building with a superb exit.

one of my favourite shrewsbury pubs, always a nice pint in this very old building, the food is fine and cooked in full view of the customers near the bar, very clean and tidy nice bar staff and owners.
