Will Larter left this review about The Vaults

I called in here about a year ago with time for a swift half before my train out of Shrewsbury, a midweek afternoon when it was pretty quiet. There were three similar beers at the blonde or gold end of the spectrum - I went for the Purity Gold, which was ok but nothing special. My notes made at the time describe the pub as an "unpretentious boozer". A more recent visit on a Saturday while the rugby union was on TV found the place very busy, and three very similar beers at the blonde or gold end of the spectrum - I went for the Purity Gold, which was ok but nothing special.

The nearest pub to the station that is worth going in (that may change when The Station Hotel opposite the station reopens under The Vaults management).
The Salopian Oracle was on good form. Three other ales were on, one was Holdens Golden Glow, but I did not mentally record the others. The pub was busy Saturday lunch with many people making a short visit, possibly using it as the station bar like I was.

This is an old pub just up from the station. Inside it's a single wooden floored room but split into area at different levels. The bar has four hand pumps which had Three Tuns Rantipole, Stonehouse Station Bitter, Hobson's Town Crier and Salopian Shropshire Gold. I went for the Town Crier which was in excellent nick. This is a nice enough pub but is open until 02:00am on Friday and Saturday so is probably a living hell on those occasions. It is GBG 2015 listed.

Formely the Castle Vaults , this is a strange place , quite dark inside , the walls and ceiling are covered in posters of films , gigs , video games etc , its multi leveled lots of ups and downs inside and there is a roof garden . Only 2 ales on London Pride and Shropshire Gold which was OK ,i was the only person in here over 25 , its a youngsters pub by the look of things , service was OK . Probally wont visit again though its not that bad

Small music oriented pub just up from the station. Several comfy sofas around and a small stage with DJ equipment. 3 handpumps on the bar selling Courage Best !!!! alongside Stonehouse Station Bitter. Needless to say I had a pint of the Stonehouse which was OK. It's a bit cliquey in here as everybody seems to know each other and as a visitor you tend to get ignored. Check out the cartoon drawings on the toilet doors. If you choose the wrong one, even when bladdered you've no excuse. It's probably very different later at night and at weekends as it was pretty quiet last night a around 7.
