Virtually the closest pub to the station, with 30 minutes to spare before getting my train, this was the final stop of my 12-pub crawl. Despite the location and attractive façade, this is as mentioned a rather basic place.
At only seven o'clock, the pub's customers seemed to be very well lubricated and I didn't get the impression that the atmosphere would improve as alcohol continued to flow.
The barmaid was friendly enough and served me with a decent half of Ringwood's Razorback at just £1.40, the cheapest drink of the day and necked at speed.
The pub gets an optimistic 3 for serving real ale, but I would not be tempted back - I think it's best left to the Shropshire Lads and Ladettes.

Biggish pub vaguely U shaped with a pool table at the back on one side. Fair amount of Victoriana in the fittings, mostly doubtful. Four pulls of Marstons stable beers, my first was so obviously a barrel end it was changed without a murmur, the replacement being fine; usual keg tosh around the central square servery. Live music when I arrived late Friday.

It was lively but with a friendly atmosphere when we called in here after the match at Water Meadows Stadium on Saturday, when quite a few people were watching the rugby on the TV, though luckily not as many as in the Castle Vaults next door (more screens = more people watching). We found a place to stand and got involved in a conversation about the relative merits of rugby union and the proper version of the game, rugby league. One commented that league is a game for 13 three-quarters; I acknowledged that union may well be played by specialists in each position, and it's good to see that each team has room for several people who are not even athletes. This seemed to go down well. There were three hand pumps on the bar, with Hobgoblin, Bombardier and a very good Marstons Amber, which was just £2.50 a pint. I would be happy to call in again.

I called in for a quick Chesney before the train after a "Shrewsbury Camra" meeting in the town earlier. At 10pm on a Wednesday there was only one other customer talking to the barmaid. Fortunately, neither of these two looked like they wanted a boxing match or a Wild West bar brawl as in previous reviews. My half of Banks's Amber was fine enough but there is not much else going for this basic pub that is likely to attract me back. For a quick one before the train, the Vaults next door is a better bet (or hopefully the Station Hotel across the road when it reopens!).

A fairly basic pub. Seems to hold boxing matches every time I've been in. It has a board saying "Ask for cask" and if you do you're likely to hear "got none, its off". Like the other reviews its best to either not bother or be in and out as quickly as possible.

Pretty basic interior with a public bar style area to the left, lounge to the right - the place has been considerably opened-out. Pool and darts spotted to the rear. TVs tuned to nothing in particular and grating music bellowing out (it was only 6.30!). Only Banks Bitter at the bar, not in overly great shape and one was a short measure (in a dash for the train I didn’t stop to argue). Not really worth the effort given that there are better choices only an extra minute or two’s walk from the station

an okay pub but sadly let down by some unfriendly regulars who think they in the days of the wild west and are prone to spoil for a fight, staff are friendly beer is fine, would advise wearing body armour if you dare to cross this threshold !!

Popped in as my train was delayed for an hour , starting to look a bit tatty inside now . There is a central bar with a pool table in back , its pretty narrow at the front of the bar but it opens up on the right of the bar , there is a yard outback to cater for smokers , usual keg stuff with 3 handpulls , Bankss Bitter , Wychwood Dirty Tackle and Jennings Crossed Buttock , the Dirty Tackle was OK .
It was friendlly enough in here but dont think i will be back unless my trains delayed again

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Bulls Head

Refurbished Marstons pub close to the station. Looks reasonable enough, inside and out, but annoyingly was being used as a children's playground with no attempt by parents or staff to keep the youngsters under control. Decent pint of Pump & Circumstance though, but quickly moved on to catch my train.

After the refurbishment there are now 4 handpumps on the bar directly facing you as you walk in. Banks's Original and bitter plus Wychwood Wizards Staff and Marstons Lord Taverner's Ale. I had a pint of the Wychwood it was OK but could have been better. The pub is much nicer inside than it was previously. The room to the right now has dining tables and chairs so they maybe planning to do food soon. The small back room has a pool table, large screen TV and a quiz machine. The small area to the left has a couple of settles and tables. It's a pleasant enough pub now, money well spent would be my opinion.
