Will Larter left this review about The Olde Bucks Head Inn

This was my fifth pub of a crawl of Shrewsbury, and my notes were becoming somewhat sketchy. Just 17 words, in fact, three of which were "nice". I did note that there was a smell of cooking fat or fried food, but whereas this would normally get my back up, on this occasion the pub was "otherwise very nice" and so was my half of Box Steam Ghost Train. Looking at my photo of the four pump clips, I reckon that's a pretty good line up, though looking at the pump clips on the shelves in the background it could have been so different!

Old Boots left this review about The Olde Bucks Head Inn

Long thin place, oddly its got a vaguely modern or vaguely 1980s interior but there are a few obvious signs of greater age. Four pulls of fairly mundane beers, Pride, Wainwright and Bass, plus a local from Salopian. Whatever, as the beer was a bit average.

A really friendly pub on the Frankwell strip. As noted its more or less 2 roomed. Ales today were the same as noted below. A few Bristol Rovers fans were in today who were a friendly bunch. Apparently has new owners.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Olde Bucks Head Inn

Fine old inn, just up from Frankwell Island, still offering accommodation. Partly opened-out, two-part bar with very traditional furniture and decor. Also has a beer garden and first-floor sun deck above the garaging. Three of four handpumps on each part of the counter clipped, with Bass, Salopian Darwin's Origin (£3.00) and London Pride available.

Used this pub as a base for our beer trip to Shrewsbury. The Olde Bucks Head has a dozen or so rooms for rent at £25pp based on 2 sharing. Breakfast is an extra £5pp, you have to book it the night before and it is at 9am on the dot, we opted to lie in and breakfast in town later.

The rooms are basic but well furnished with comfortable beds, lots of towels and a good en-suite bathroom to each room.

On the bar is Bass, London Pride and a guest ale. Between the 6 of us, we tried them all and have to report that they were all in firt rate condition. If you are resident, the bar stops open until midnight, giving you chance for a couple after the pubs in town close, mostly at 11pm.

Excellent base for exploring the town and much better than the sterile environment of the Premier Inn that has just opened.

ROB Camra left this review about Bucks Head (ye Olde) Inn

Fine old black and white timbered building just over the roundabout across the Welsh bridge. Had 3 handpumps but only 2 were actually on. Serving the well known local beers of London Pride and Draught Bass (why, why, why, you're in Shropshire!). No fruit machines and very low level background music. Mature clientele, who were a little standoffish in my opinion. I had a pint of the Bass which was pretty good. It's a nice enough pub but a bit cliquey.
