Oggwyn Great left this review about The Drayton Gate

Originally called the Albion after an extensive re-fit it was renamed the Drayton Gate after a Civil War battle where a small local force of musketers and the Towns Woman held off a large Royalist Force , it is remembered in verse ,

The Woman of Wem and a few Musketers
Beat Lord Capel and all his Caveliers.

There are still a few battle scarred , slightly scarry women of Wem around today , but thankfully none were in the Drayton Gate on my visit .
Its all very modern in here , very much a ccktail bar/resturant , the main entrance is around the back , the large horseshoe bar is to the left in what is basically one large room although it is divided into seperate areas , there is an oldish looking fire place on the right , stripey carpet throughout .
The place is very much geared to a more up-market trendy clientelle , lots of coktails available , only three pulls on the bar with Peroni and Kozel and unusually one real ale , a decent Stonehouse Station Bitter .
Service was very friendly by the young enthusiastic barmaid .
Food looked very good(did not eat)and has a good reputation , nice outside drinking area as well .
Not my type of pub at all , but it was friendly and the beer OK , decent enough for a quick pint .

A quick note it does not open Monday - Wednesday

Modernised pub serving meals and real ale. Probably the best in Wem. Ample parking and close to the railway station. Has recently struggled to stay open but now seems settled. Well worth a visit.
