Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Hop & Friar

Remodelled / refurbished side-street pub that looks more modern inside than the heritage exterior would suggest. Rather nondescript opened-out interior with pool table, etc. As a Marston's house, I found Banks's Amber (£3.65) and Wainwright Gold available from two of the four handpumps.

Largish pub with 4 real ales but nothing strong. Various TVs and a beer garden round the back.

Formerly known as the Acorn the once multi-roomed interior is now one big open plan room with a few seperate areas for darts and pool , not the most upmarket pub in town but pretty friendly , usual taps and four handpulls , two on with Banks Bitter and Hobgoblin , the bitter was fine .
Its OK in here if not great

A bit like the Slaughtered Lamb when you walk in in that everyone stops and stares at you.

ROB Camra left this review about The Hop & Friar

Looks old from the outside but brand new on the inside. Had Banks's bitter and Original on handpump when I called in. Had a pint of the bitter which was fine (Banks's isn't my favourite beer anyway). The pub interior looks like it's not quite finished yet as there were still pictures waiting to be hung on the walls. Roaring fire next to the doorway and several nooks and crannies in what is in fact one large room. Not bad at all.

Average just about covers it. Nice comfortable bar/lounge with indifferent Banks's/Marstons beers. About the best beer on sale is Guinness - nuff said. Recently seems to have changed hands as they had Tetleys on yesterday (15th July 2008) - never mind! Good atmosphere when crowded, which isn't very often. Garden at rear. Large municipal car park nearby.
