A multi-building hotel, restaurant and pub, which includes a cruck frame former tithe barn to a Georgian undressed brick build, with large garden area. Very much a wedding and special occasion venue – I believe the rooms have swings! so not sure about its inclusion on PG, but it does have a separate pub area that is open to all.

The interior is a rough L-shape, but this includes a nesting of several areas that are dining, drinking and a mix of both. At my visit everyone seemed to be eating – I didn’t, so i can’t comment on that, or the accommodation. The decor centres on undressed brick, wood panel and beams, with tiled floors. There are central hearth features that help divide up the internal space. The ephemera is legion, an eclectic and fun mix of; plates, prints, barrels for seats, mangles, trees, wood settles – you name it, it will be there – an omnibus edition of the Antiques Roadshow whilest having a drink. The tongue in cheek ‘Temperance Hall’ in the glass at the entrance adds to the humour. The service was friendly, a little formal at first, but i ended up having a bit of a chinwag with the guy behind the bar. I didn’t see a TV, nor was there background music at my visit.

Beer; tap stuff, with Wem Shropshire Stout, Phillips Aleric and Heritage on handpull. The Heritage was good.

Not one for the modernist maybe – which makes a change to say. You couldn’t run out of conversation here as there is too much around you. I found this place good fun and would happily go back.
