Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Plough Inn

It's been a fair few years since I'd last been in Shifnal. I returned on Saturday to visit a couple of pubs that can be found in the Good Beer Guide these days.

With 10 handpulls, I was expecting a better selection than what was available. Despite it being a Saturday, only 3 ales were on offer - Beartown Bearly Spring & Bluebeary & Wriggly Monkey Chara Banc. A fourth beer was pulled through by the young staff, who didn't appear to know exactly what they were doing. The fourth beer was Kelham Island Pale Rider. A cider (Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon) occupied a 5th handpull.

There's quite a dark interior. One other customer was inside, with the majority seemingly drinking outdoors at the rear. Others did arrive and joined us inside. Some of those were also bemoaning the beer selection. So, I guess it is normally wider than what we found. The Chara Banc was also fairly poor quality. I got the impression it was nearing the end of the cask.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Plough Inn

Excellent traditional pub with three small seating / dining areas, and although these have probably been opened out at some stage, the interior retains a lot of character with two bow windows at the front and low ceilings with exposed wooden beams. Simply but appropriately furnished and decorated throughout. I found nine of the ten handpumps in use, with two from Hobson's - Best (£2.70) and Champion Mild - seven others from mostly local or regional breweries and a couple of ciders. I later saw that the tenth pull was being readied for another cask ale, so although unsure what that was going to be, it was another good sign.

Another solid pub with a choice of 8 beers on. We tried 2 from Hobsons brewery which were fine. Well worth a visit.

Old Boots left this review about The Plough Inn

An obviously venerable building on my Saturday evening visit it had a restauranty vibe in the front area, a wall has been partly removed so it's one room not two now, even though it's a genuine pub. Strangely the front was heaving while a nice little tap room at the back was empty apart from a middle class couple absent mindedly watching some minor soccer game, well she did but he was engrossed in his phone. When she got bored with the footy he got an ear bashing for not paying attention to her, ah pubs all human life is there, doncha luv em?

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Plough Inn

A traditional locals pub, which was well supported on our Friday afternoon visit, with the majority of the regulars taking up space in the rear lounge. I also agree with BF, their beer choice was slightly more adventurous than the White Hart and I found the Battlefield Saxon Gold to be a decent pint. Eight pumps, all in use on our visit.

A bit more earthy than The White Hart up the road, this had a solid boozer atmosphere and was lively on a Friday afternoon before the Fair got going. It has quite a low ceiling,a back room and beer garden with 8 handpumps serving on my trip Hobsons Best and Champion Mild,Joules Pale Ale,Salopian Darwin Origin,Robinsons Dizzy Blonde,Bristol Beer Factory Milk Stout and Titanic IPA (decent nick but a hop bomb).I thought this was a better range than at the GBG listed White Hart and so would include both on any real ale tour of the town.

A really good pub. One of those places that feels really good to walk into on your first visit. The eight handpumps angled towards you adds to that welcome feeling. The beamed pub is broken up into several cosy areas with the bar being the central feature. A pint of Jaipur for the 2nd drink might not be the best preparation for a long day but it was great at the time!

Aqualung . left this review about The Plough Inn

This is a small genuine olde worlde pub that was surprisingly quiet on my midday visit. Apparently it is a 17th Century listed building. The interior is small and there is a tiled floor with lots of exposed beams.
On the bar there are eight hand pulled beers and a couple of ciders.
The eight beers were Three Tuns Mild & Solstice, St Austell HSD & Dartmoor Best, Hobson's Best, Wood's Lass, Millstone True Grit and Hydes Retired.
I went for the Three Tuns Mild (£2.40) which was in great condition.
This was easily my favourite of the three GBG 2014 listed pubs in Shifnal.

Oggwyn Great left this review about The Plough Inn

Decent real ale pub recently reopened after being a resturant for many years , to the right of the entrance is a small room divided from the rest of the pub by the skelatal remains of an old wall , the bar is at a slight angle to the left , the pub then narrows before opening out again to the rear and then leads out to a patio . There are a lot of old beams and the walls are painted a nie shade of red .
Eight handpulls with a good range of ales available ,Three Tuns Stout , Hobsons Mild , Hobsons Bitter , Brough Pale , O`kells Red , Everards Tiger , Springhead Ginger and a very good St Austell Proper Job .
Servie was good and loals friendly , well worth a visit
