Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Fox Inn

Must be one of the oldest pubs in town, with a compact bar (little bigger than a snug) and two slightly larger rooms (one with an entrance of the side alleyway) further back; all under low ceilings. Regular live music advertised. As a Joule's house, I found their Pale (£3.40) and Slumbering Monk on from a bank of five handpumps.

A lovely little Joules run pub. The place is basically 3 areas to sit with a room to the rear which can be used for functions apparently. The bar area is to the front and here you will find 5 handpulls on the bar 4 of these dispensed Joules beers (well 2 Joules beers as Slumbering Monk and Pale were doubled). Sadly the other handpull was bare. There's not as much wood panelling as a lot of Joules pubs and there are low beams and bevelled windows. I liked it despite the rather thin beer choices.

This one wasn't on my agenda for the day but I spotted the Joule's signage and decided to give it a go. Inside it's a single room split into three areas with a bar area at the front, a middle area dominated by a huge fireplace and a rear area up a step. The ceiling is low and there are beams everywhere. I saw no signs of any TV screens.
The bar has five hand pumps which had the three regular Joule's beers and their Shropshire Hop plus Wickwar BOB as a guest. I went for the Pale (£3.00) which was in good nick.
This is an excellent addition to a town not really noted for beer and pubs.

The short closure took seven months! A very sympathetic renovation of this old world pub. Plenty of old pictures and old signs of part owners Joules Brewery. Four connecting in line rooms with the bar in the entrance room and a wood burning stove in the 2nd room. Four ales from Joules plus one guest ale. Free Wi Fi which I am using at the moment! Guest beer and one Joules beer (so far) are on fine form.

Mr Fastard describes this gem well below so I won't repeat his description.
It's an interesting and quirky old building originating from the late 16th/early 17th century with various additions made over the years.
It's rare that a pub with just two beers from Marstons available, albeit the drinkable Wakatu Single Hop alongside Wychwood Bountiful, would win me over. This one did due to the character and friendliness of the charmingly eccentric governor, the welcome from the eclectic mix of locals and the chance to participate in a jamming session with some seriously high quality musicians. All of these things added up to create a very enjoyable evening.
A great boozer with an uncertain future as demonstrated by the 'For Sale' sign outside. Let's hope that any changes are sympathetic but in the meantime, this is the first place I'd head to in, the generally disappointing, Oswestry.

A small ,cosy Elizabethan building with a very interesting interior tied to Marstons. The low entrance leads to a small front room with four handpumps on the bar,a couple of bar stools and ledge seating at the sides.Through a low doorway is the main room, with a large fireplace, wood burner, quarry tiles and a collection of guitars with Zapper is King insignia and other musical instruments.Further back on the way to the loos is another section with some old furniture while down a narrow corridor to the left is an almost secret back room with a fitted bench around the walls. An interior worthy of listing, and most charming.
There wasn't much real ale choice as the Cockerhoop had gone off and the Wychwood Bountiful had disappointed elsewhere, but the remaining Wakatu Single Hop proved a good quaff. The landlord came over for a chat and proved a real character. He explained that a lot of his regulars didn't fit in elsewhere and as the evening wore on ,a bohemian mix of punters emerged. It was jam night and three excellent musicians turned up ,with drinkers handed percussion instrument to join in.It made for a memorable night, there was free chilli for anyone taking part and I'm sure after a long session this would all get munched through.
The landlord has been in charge for 11 years and is uncertain about the future given Marston's wants to sell the freehold.I only pray that the character and the interior of this classic boozer are not lost.Best to get there soon just in case.

Probably the most traditional pub in the area, they keep the beer well and its very small and cozy in the bar.
