If one building in Ludlow were to stand out above all others, then this is it, dating from 1619, grade I-listed and regarded as being the finest half-timbered building in the British Isles; that’s the good bit.
Having seen the pub from the outside for more than five decades, the time came to satisfy my curiosity. There are two rooms to either side of the entrance, the left-hand one laid for dining, leaving just a smallish right-hand snug; both were empty. The bar is a little further on, but it’s not much more than a token bar, not one you could prop up. Beyond that, is the hotel’s reception desk and finally, there’s a dining room, full on my Sunday evening visit. As I approached the bar, the barman made eye contact with me, then without a word, promptly dashed off. I waited a while for him to return but without reward; the three members of staff at reception did nothing to provide succour, so after a fair wait, I walked.
For the record, the bar top proffered a cask choice of three which I didn’t record. What twaddle.

ROB Camra left this review about The Feathers Hotel

Very smart hotel bar. The bar is now on the left as you enter with two lounge areas. Friendly barman served me a pint of Ludlow Best which was the only cask ale available. Ms CAMRA had a very nice glass of red wine. It is very expensive, but we knew that it would be before we went in. Very Olde Worlde and a very pleasant place to while away half an hour.

The interior has had a refurbishment since my last visit and has been very tastefully done. As you enter the Hotel you will find a lounge area either side of the entrance. The bar area has now been moved to the rear and beyond this was the dining area. Two ales on handpump on our visit which were Wainwright and Ludlow Best.

Soup Dragon left this review about Feathers Hotel

A terraced hotel, restaurant and bar. The hotel and restaurant are housed in the nice c17th carved wood and white exterior part - the pub is in the nice Georgian building next door. The interior of the bar area is simply a straight room. It is in red and white with a flag floor and has a few pub prints on the walls. There was no TV or music. The service was fine and a few older ladies were in 'taking tea'. They do food, but we didn't eat. Beer; Ludlow Gold, Boiling Well and Hobson's Old Prickly, which was fine. They had San Miguel for the lager boys. Worth a stop off for the local real ales - perhaps a little disappointing if you wanted to see inside the olde part.

Stand outside and admire the carved exterior. As the premier hotel in Ludlow its always been pricey. The odd occassion I have visited the beer has never impressed. Give it a try,you can always say that you have had a drink here on its many appearances on TV.
Ludlow is built on a steep hill and many of its buildings are ancient. Getting about and access by wheelchair can be difficult. The Feathers is probably the best for access .
