Komakino . left this review about The Royal

Open, closed, open and closed over the last few years. It became The Royal Standard again after its galliformed incarnation, reviewed by Nick D and Quinno, and now trades in a truncated version of the name after the latest re-opening at the end of 2023. A pub of two parts, with a distinct drinking area to the right of the pub and a larger area to the left for dining: the bar serving the drinking area only. Modern boards and a clear navy and cream colour scheme going on inside. Hotel accommodation also available. Just Loose Cannon Abingdon Bridge available, with two further pumps unclipped. A fiver for the privilege and in decent enough fist (NBSS 3). Eyeballs the Coachmakers Arms over the road.

Quinno _ left this review about The Partridge

Now basically a candlelit restaurant. No ale available, just a solitary lager font. Desmond disappointed as he was panting over the hostess.

Nick Davies left this review about The Partridge

Closed for a period, now open again, down market from previous incarnation and called The Partridge Inn Wine Bar and Restaurant.

In the wrong part of town for the market it seeks. Given there's a decent GBG pub across the road there's little reason to go in here for a drink.

2011 notes: This is a Michelin two-fork restaurant, and very good it is too: this is top flight stuff. However this is a pub review website. You could go in and have just a drink but I can't imagine any reason why anyone would, and I suspect neither do they, the bar only exists for those having an aperitif before sitting down.

It would be unfair of me to give it a star rating as a pub, so I won't. If this were a restaurant review site it would easily get eight out of ten.
