A pretty Green King pub in a picturesque village square location. Two rooms, to left a more public-style bar in a cream and duck egg colour scheme, to the right a lounge bar in a tasteful burgundy red and cream. Football stadium street signs dotted about. TV, darts and bar billiards spotted. Food offered. Four ales, GK IPA, Morlands, Bath Gem, Cotswold OSM (good). Got a bit of a health warning about this one despite it being a GBG 2014 entry as apparently it’s a bit of a ‘chuck out your chimps’ place on weekend evenings, but my weekday late afternoon visit was fine and I thought this was the best place in town by a nose. I think they have certainly smartened up since the last reviewer posted.

Given the picturesque nature of the pedestrianised street outside one would perhaps expect a little more of the Dolphin. Certainly those who remember the pub in its Morland's days could be forgiven for thinking that Greene King have let it go to seed. It's a two roomed affair, structurally unchanged for many years. The public bar to the left tends to appeal to the lager and footie crowd. There's darts and bar billiards. The lounge is now more devoted to eating and they do a fine all-day breakfast.

Beer is Greene King of course, so-so Morland Original but maybe I'm biased, Morland's beer was good stuff before GK got their hands on it. It's a servicable pub, could do with smartening up a bit, and is probably at its best on a summer's afternoon when there's tables out on the street.
