A bit unusual this one - an Arkells house having an identity crisis and being all crafty. Three of the Arkells cask, that I wouldnt touch if I had crawled across the desert and a back wall of keg craft. I think they were all from a single brewery - Dodo Pub Co. Regardless, I had a cask cider.

Typical pubby intertor - with exposed floorboards, a long L shaped bar, through a couple of knocked through rooms. Outside seating on wobbly benches in the hastily pedestrianised street.

Worth checking out but the other two locals - Bookbinders and Harecourt Arms are better.

The former Radcliffe Arms is something of an oddity: it's a sort of hipster pub selling the likes of pizzas and burgers, and for all the world would look more at home on Upper Street in Islington or somewhere around Hoxton or Shoreditch - it's completely out of place in a sleepy Jericho backstreet.
The crowd is young and trendy, the floor bare boarded, the colour scheme is dark blue/grey and there are oversized industrial metal lamps over the bar with other filament lamps dotted around. There are stalls for some of the tables with ugly sauce bottles on them and cutlery stored in what look like empty baked bean cans - the sort of thing you see on tables in GBK. Music played at a volume which was less than comfortable.
Ales: just two: Arkell's 3B and Moonlight which was ok but a bit boring.
This place is barely what I'd call a pub any longer and the limited ale choice doesn't help. The Harcourt Arms across the road is a better bet.

The sort of eclectic pub you might expect to find in Jericho, with enthusiastic staff who cared about the beer - checking a slight cloudiness - but they were certainly in good order (Cask Marque listed). Food largely burgers and pizzas, but home made and very good. Watch out for offers to avoid the pricing however.

Another street corner local which has had a significant makeover,it's tied to Arkell's so you know what you are letting yourself in for on the real ale front. The pub was rammed which may have had something to do with the happy hour between 5pm and 7pm,although what promotion was on offer I couldn't tell. The L shaped interior has a wooden floor and a series of small seating booths by the front door,a mid section of a rank of high tables and chairs leading to some scrubbed kitchen tables with a large restaurant extending out at the rear.Every spare surface had a collection of hardbacks,it appeared popular with those working at the OUP nearby, hence the new name.Again tea lights on everytable, and I spotted a specials board offering beef stew and herb dumplings for two to share at £28,and an 8oz rib eye at £22 after which I decided that I wouldnt bother investigating the food offering any further, although plenty of punters were coming in for something to eat.The pub opens at 9am for breakfast, foods a big deal here.
At the bar the real ale options were Arkell's 3B,Moonlight and Kingsdown (an unbalanced malt monster,I just about managed a half £1.60) together with their sister brewerys' Donnington SBA.
Mine was a brief visit on a Jericho crawl,it was lively but I dont feel I could stand a whole evening supping Arkell's very average real ale.

Backstreet Arkells house (previously called the Radcliffe Arms), painted battleship grey. Pitching itself as a high-end food outlet and to be fair the pub smelt rather lovely, proper cooking smells as opposed to deep-fat fryer. L-shaped interior. The dark blue area to the right with ‘Man of the World’ prints caught my eye. Also a couple of booth-type areas by the bar, so drinkers are still welcome. Scrabble and dominoes available as well as some pub game that I faintly recognised but on asking the barmaid was completely clueless, would have thought she’d have known what the large green nailed board on the bar was for. Five pumps sporting four Arkells ales, my Kingsdown was in decent shape although it tasted rather akin to Special Brew – mind you I don’t rate their ales much. Well-worth including on a Jericho crawl, Arkells ales notwithstanding.
