Recently acquired by olde worlde pub specialists Nicholsons, this looked like an intriguing prospect, situated off a small alley. Apparently the interior has had a hefty makeover and is now full of dark wood fittings, half wood panelling and beams. It’s fairly dark inside with the effect enhanced by deliberately muted lighting. Seven ales and a cider were available at the long narrow bar. We tried the Hadleys Blonde (pedestrian) and Nethergate Umbel Magna (good). One off-putting thing was that the pub seemed to have preponderance of midge-like flies.

I’d give this one another go but it didn’t immediately impress.

Steve C left this review about The Crown Inn

For a Saturday it was very empty and lifeless. It would probably do very well if there was no competition, but Oxford is full of great pubs and this one isn't really in the same league.

Saying that the Barmen were pretty friendly and the lager was well kept, but even so this pub is lacking in atmosphere.
