The Black Swan is a basic open plan L-shaped backstreet boozer with a television on each end wall, one showing muted Sky Sports and the other MTV. The bar supports standard and premium keg as well as Brixton Coldharbour Lager. There were three other customers, and we were all stood drinkless at the bar waiting for some service. I wandered outside to find the barman checking people into the small shed club next door. I decided to leave because he looked in no hurry to return to serve the pub customers.

Despite living a couple of hundred yards from here in the mid/late '90s, this was a first visit.
As described below, this is a very modernised pub, with a bare floor then walls of either bare brick or shades of grey paint, a modern pale wood bar front and pot shelf, furnished conventionally with modern louver blinds, décor coming solely in the shape of tedious World Cup bunting or sports fixtures, the only redeeming feature being a log burning stove, though inactive. Sport played on one TV, whilst seemingly endless adverts played on another, their soundtracks clashing with one another. Customers were a sullen, older bunch and few in number, when neighbouring pubs were doing a brisk trade.
There’s still no ale, the best option being Brixton Lager at a painful £3.00 a half, served by a potty mouthed barmaid.
This isn’t the worst pub in Oxford, but I’d rank it in joint fifth place though.

Heavily modernized Greene King outlet. Light pine fittings and it smelt of IKEA too. No ale so moved on.
