A return visit last night to what was once a regular haunt after a gap of 14 years and little if anything has changed; the rather joyless manager (who resembled a young John Cleese) has gone as has the kitten which is now probably a dead cat. This is quite a bright and spacious pub with a side bar and raised area to the rear; I think the dartboard has gone, giving more space for drinkers in comfy chairs to the rear. Otherwise furniture is solid with tables of varying sizes with a raised area to the rear right. A veritable Hamley's of board games is available; there are both front and rear patios.

The pub attracts a mixed crowd of both students (thankfully not Hoorays) and locals alike - well worth a visit if you're this side of Oxford.

Youngs pub and perennial Good Beer Guide entry. Five ales, four from Youngs (Special, Gold, Blonde, Ordinary) and a guest (Hooky) with the ale in decent, if not exactly outstanding, condition. Fairly characterful interior even if it has been opened-out rather too much. Wood predominates - fireplace, bar, flooring and wall panelling with burgundy paint in the areas that remain. A large frieze of the pub on the wall shows when it was previously known as a music pub called the Oranges & Lemons, replete with a couple of punks. A number of bowler hats were hung above the bar. A blackboard with the weather forecast caught our eye, not sure if was amusing or not. Bar Billiards and a selection of board games to keep you occupied. Tidy rear patio, with a decent collection of fauna. A reliable stop when out this way.

I wasn’t that impressed with this place on my first visit, but I have been in a few times since and I think that it has improved and I quite like it in here now. On my most recent visit I had a few pints of very nice Waggle Dance in the Beer Garden at the back of the pub. I’ve found that the attitude of the staff can be a bit hit and miss, but I was served by a friendly barman this time.

All of my visits have been during the daytime when this pub is fairly subdued, but there is a dartboard and a billiards table. There are usually some people dining and the food looks good, but I have never eaten here.

The toilet is a bit of a trek upstairs and this is one of the more expensive pubs in the area, but I think that it is worth a visit.
