The Bell is a rambling former 17th century Coaching Inn which now functions as a hotel and pub. Some dark, characterful rooms lead from the small main bar area with its nice murals and large fireplace, and then there is a cobbled courtyard to the rear. There is also some apparent historical connection to Oliver Cromwell who is reputed to have celebrated here after his victory at the civil war battle of Faringdon in 1645.
I guess this one is owned by Wadsworths as three of their brews were available in the shape of Henry IPA, 6X and the seasonal St George & The Dragon, the latter being in OK condition.
Certainly worth popping here for one when in town, especially if you can bag a table in one of the more pleasant side rooms to the main bar area.

A busy town centre pub in a lovely old coaching inn, obviously a grand place in the past but now just an average pub. The main bar is convivial, and there is a livly family/games room. Food was good and not too expensive. Decor is dated and tired, but it felt homely enough. There were 3 ales on, all Wadworths. I had a Horizon which wasn't in top condition but was still drinkable. Worth popping in for lunch or a quick evening snack, and I would include on a town crawl.
