Lovely rambling centre pub, fine example of a Sam Smiths house. Long bar, split in two, parquet light brick floor, various drinking areas.

Good quality beer at exceptional price.

A very splendid looking building, built in 1744 by Edward Wortley and was used as a workhouse and bought in 1981 by Samuel Smith Brewery and is now a drinking house. The interior is not as over elaborate as I was expecting and I did find the six separate drinking areas and mustard coloured brick floor in the right hand side section to be of interest. Another interesting point was, the two halves of Double 4 lager came it at a whopping £2.

Superbly maintained traditional pub. Quite large and welcoming. A Samuel Smiths pub so the usual quirk that only their products are on sale. An enjoyable stop off though and at least it doesn;t get quite as busy in here as some of the other City Centre pubs.

Looks terrific from the outside. You have to stand at one end to appreciate the impressive interior view straight through to the fireplace at the other. OBB on handpump (£1.54!), SS Cider Reserve, Alpine keg, plus Pure Brew lager which was the surprising choice of one of our company, sadly taking the round of six beyond the tenner. Open rooms & seating areas in sections off the ‘corridor', various wood/fabric settles & cushioned stools, some lovely faded yellow brick flooring.

Quite a decent, cosy pub with a couple of fairly small rooms. Friendly barman and Samuel Smith's own cider on tap which is quite a decent pint.

Sam Smith's Ales. Lovely pub, I've only ever visited two (Smith's) pubs and they really do set their own standard. very cheap!
