Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Three Pigeons Inn

We tried the front door of the Three Pigeons only to find it locked on our Wednesday lunchtime visit. However, we did manage to access the pub from the rear, assuming that somebody had forgotten to open the front door.

After a while waiting at the bar, the friendly and chatty landlady appeared and asked us how we'd got in. She said that the lunchtime trade was no longer there and that they no longer open until 3pm. However, we were welcome to stay for a drink. I thought this was quite nice of her. Others may have just thrown us out!

The real ale choice is now down to Doom Bar & Pure Gold. She did say that they used to have a guest beer, but that it was no longer viable to stock one.

The main room sprawls around a central bar. To the rear is a courtyard with accommodation and function rooms off here. It seems that much of the trade at this pub these days is from functions. This is a nicely appointed pub, albeit a bit dark inside, with friendly owners. It probably won't be the highlight of any visit to Banbury, but it's a decent place for a quick drink.

Nothing much has changed since Ray's visit 5 years ago. It's a step down from the pavement, and as you wind around the various rooms ,the ceiling and heavy beams are really low.I too relaxed in the wood panelled snug area at the back of the bar and I too was disappointed in ale options of just Doom Bar and Purity Pure Gold (good nick however NBSS 3.5,£4.40)
There are letting rooms and food served but the pub was quiet on a Wednesday evening .The flatscreen is not for paid for sport, probably just free to air events.
Decent pub but not much to rush back for.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Three Pigeons Inn

A striking looking 17th Century Thatched Coaching house that has been lovingly restored both inside and out. The interior is traditional with a slight touch of some contemporary features. The first thing I noticed was how low the original ceilings were. The original beams especially beams at the rear of the building, had had a ferocious infestation of woodworm at some point. The interior had four main areas, two front sections and two side rooms, which were mainly set out for dining. One of which was traditional in décor, with a feature wall of tankards and the other more modern in style with a glass panelled conservatory roof. We sat in a small lobby at the rear of the bar, which was once the original snug. This was tastefully finished and the couple of high back buttoned red leather arm chairs were very comfortable. Three pumps, with what seems to be the usual suspects, Sharps Doombore and a Purity UBU. We went for the UBU, which was pricey at £4 a pint, still the quality was good.

Recently renovated and in the Good Beer Guide 2017.

Immaculate inside - much given over to diners but a couple of chesterfields in front of log burners are available.

Disappointing choice of only 2 real ales on my visit - Purity Gold and Doombar.

The beer was OK and one of the cheapest pints on our visit.
