Off an unlit side road and away from prying eyes, this is an old school steakhouse restaurant serving a couple of ales. Stepping in, it's like an early 80's timewarp. We were served but through politely gritted teeth and told in no uncertain terms that they "don’t really operate as a pub" and indeed there was nowhere to drink but we got a table by the bar. Can’t comment on the food but there were lots of mini blackboards around with various dishes chalked up on them, most of which were probably unchanged since the Miner’s Strike – my parents would love it in here. For the record the two ales were Hobgoblin and Border Ale (a Marstons rebadge of some kind) the latter of which was in surprisingly good nick. Hard to leave a rating so it's here as a basic guide to it being a pub rather than an eatery (surely than can spare a table just for drinking? Not like they're going to get carloads of lager louts turning up).

On the border of Northants and Oxon (Overthorpe village is actually in Northants, but this establishment is outside the village in Oxon), this isn't a pub at all as the awning outside proudly proclaiming 'Steak House Restaurant & Hotel' attests, and the building is divided internally as thus. Two ales - Hobgoblin and 'Border Ale' (brewed by Marston's) with a third pump unclipped, and a half of the latter came to £1.60, but as there's nowhere to sit and no beer garden, I ended up perched on a wall outside overlooking the car park (fortunately it was clement), then ended up chucking the beer after one sip due to the overwhelming taste of vinegar. I can't comment on the food, but if you're deciding to come here just for a drink, forget it.
