Much the same here: cosy and convivial ambience, this time with a Rugby Union game showing on a small screen in the right-hand corner of the room, but not to the detriment of those in the pub uninterested in the sport (volume at a low level). Three ales on this time, one of which caused me having to wait to be served as Elgood's Saturday Night Beaver was being pulled through (really good), supplemented by West Berks Mr Chubb's Lunchtime Bitter (the old pump clip version with Mr Chubb on the front) and 'Grumpy Landlord' brewed by White Horse for the pub, which is ironic as I've never seen the Guv'nor in less than top form (perhaps I've been lucky). The Viz Real Ale Twats frame has gone which is a shame. Mind you, I still don't know the landlord's name after three visits, so there's no way I can call myself a "casketeer".

A free house in the yokely-sounding market town of Bampton which is head and shoulders above all its other establishments. You enter from the left into a smallish, rectangular, dark L-shaped room, with the bar against the wall to the left (the 'L' snakes around to the left where a dartboard is housed). Art Nouveau / Fin de siècle French art is painted on the whitewashed walls along with a framed Viz 'Real Ale Twats' cartoon and three locAles were on handpump - West Berks Mr Chubb's, White Horse Bitter and ABC's Valknut (in excellent shape). Busy on a Monday night, with a darts match in full swing and the convivial landlord was very much playing mine host. The locals are a good-natured bunch to boot and it's easy to end up striking a conversation with one or some of them. Well worth seeking out, although do check ahead as the opening hours can be erratic.
