Old Boots left this review about Hearty Good Fellow

Really a restaurant masquerading as a pub, four or five tables to one side can be used by drinkers but on the other hand might be reserved. Eight pulls of Everards and others in decent nick but the service isn’t on the ball.

Yet another great pub in a village blessed with many if the Heraty Gooofellow, an Everards tied house on one of the main road a five minute walk from the main high street. the inside is tastefully decorated and keeps an old school vibe without being old or shabby, it is a very warm and comforting place to be especially in winter with its low beams and ceilings, food is also very good quality and home made here. The bar lines the back wall as you enter and has eight hand pumps with two dedicated to ciders (mango and apple n blackcurrant). the rest left Everards Tiger as a permanent beer being an Everards house with the rest being ever changing guests which included St Austill proper job at £3.70 but this was off at our time of visit. Wellbeck Abbey hearty Blonde and another of their monthly specials as well as Castle Rocks Elsie Mo and Brian Clough, a well kept fruity pale ale coming in at average for the area £3.40. There is also a very impressive beer garden with children's play area and lots of tables with large umbrellas perfect for sitting in and enjoying the sun as we did mid August. One of the many gems in Southwell and definitely worth the effort to visit if around the area.

Real Ale Ray left this review about Hearty Good Fellow

We called at lunch time and the place was busy with people eating. There was a line of people on the right hand side of the bar ordering food. We stood on the left and the landlord had no problem spotting us and serving us a couple of drinks. There were eight handpumps on offer, I went for the Shardlow Narrow Boat and Maypole Gate Hopper, which were top notch. Mrs A tried another ale which was past its best. The landlord changed it straight away without fuss and said the cask was near the end. Very professional, the landlord also owns Mallards brewery, so obviously he knows his beers.

Jeremy Pemberton left this review about Hearty Good Fellow

This is a first rate Good Beer pub with many interesting guest beers on tap - also a range of foreign beers and English ciders. It has the only real beer garden in Southwell - about 1 acre. Good food at lunchtime only. Very friendly landlords. Strongly recommended.

The Hearty Goodfellow is a decent looking black and white pub.
Once inside we went in a smart lounge which was very comfortable, there may have been other rooms but we did'nt look, the pub is an Everards tied house and there were two real ales on the bar we had a drink of Everards Tiger bitter and this was a very nice drink, the other beer was Everards Original.
This is a nice pleasant pub to have a few drinks in.
